I can't speak to other cities but in the NYC area I use AXS about 50/50 to TM.

 

So if Ticketmaster admitted that their fees are too high, does that create an opportunity for someone to swoop in and demand that they give everyone a refund for the fees for all their shows?

 

Again, it's NOT just Ticketmaster who adds those fees. It's the promoter/artist and venue as well. In this case, I imagine The Cure opted out of getting a kickback of the fee and then likely strongarmed the promoter (I assume LN in this case) to reduce the fee according to ticket price which is admirable of them. The ticket processing fee probably remained. If anything, this whole thing has shown how much control artists can have if they put their mind to it. Wild that a 60 + English guy gets more done than any of the megastars in the last year.

I would be okay with this… I used so many vouchers just to have a night out.

 

I actually went to see Our Lady Peace a few months ago and I got an email afterwards with a voucher for 20 dollars for the next time I go to the HOB in Chicago. I was not mad.

So bummed Matt isn't playing the Florida dates.

 

At this point, Florida just seems to ignore what the people want, and go with what they think can be defined as 'freedom' more, and push that so a bunch of conservative dweebs can get hard ons and say things like 'Florida - the last bastion of freedom!' and 'where woke to goes to die!'.

"The liberals don't want YOU to be able to make money selling YOUR tickets!!! and they expect you to commit to plans you made MONTHS ago!! And what if your favorite artist comes out as WOKE?! You can't dump YOUR tickets then?"

 

I dont know how I feel about these efforts to end secondary markets for tickets. I might not be understanding what exactly it entails. Scalping sucks, but also sometimes shit happens and you just cant attend anymore and need to sell your tickets.

It would be nice if the resale market remained, but there was a cap on how much you can increase the price from the original purchase amount. Like say no more than 20% the original retail price.

For anyone in the Dallas area, ALT 103.7 is running a ticket deal this weekend for a handful of shows with $10.37 tickets plus fees.

damn, so jealous looking at a concert calendar of a major market compared to my mid-market city that gets skipped by 40-50% of tours

 

Finally finished suffering through the TicketMaster dork/Bob Lefsetz podcast. Not sure how anybody thought this would make anybody like or "understand" TM more. Within the first 10 minutes, he refers to somebody heavily involved with Ponzi schemes as a "genius."

From there, he goes on to blame promoters and artists for the fees. Basically, TM was billing them to the artists and the artists said "this doesn't make sense" and pushed back. So he blamed that on the artists.

And he then goes on to say how a promoter reached out at one point because they were having a hard time meeting rent...

So yeah, it's all totally legit and this guy is a genius. Fuck him and fuck Ticketmaster. True scumbags. The promoters involved are scumbags too, of course, but let's not extrapolate that one anecdote and pretend that was happening with every promoter.

They do talk about how the acts started getting some of the fees eventually. But that anecdote, coupled with what's going on with the Cure right now... Is enough for me to know that Ticketmaster is the real problem.

 

Hard disagree. My hang-ups with TM are the lack of transparency but without acts/managers/promoters opting in to this shit, Ticketmaster would be nothing. If everyone did what The Cure is currently doing right now, we'd see an entirely different landscape but the big acts just don't want to give up those paydays.

In terms of "billing the fees", essentially someone has to pay for them. They're a tech platform that allows for the distribution of tickets so, like any business, there is going to be a charge for that. Seemingly it's been on the act is happy to pass on to the fans but maybe that'll change in the future.
