If that was clearly what the show has been doing then I haven’t been paying attention.

Felt like Andor vibes for that middle part.

It honestly felt like I was watching a completely different show after the first 10 minutes.

  4. I liked the episode. Felt more like what Andor was doing, which was expanding on the world and dealing with regular people and not just the big heroes/villains. I thought the amnesty program stuff was interesting. I liked that they showed that the upper class didn't really care who was in power as long as they remained part of the wealthy/elite. I liked that we seem to have moved passed the SW binary of Republic/Empire = good/evil. Even the government you fight or vote for is capable of immorality. Felt more true to life in that respect.

Not sure what Kane's motivations were. I'm guessing that'll be revealed later?

The opening sequence was fun too.

it’s not random though. Well, based on my speculation. See more below.

While I don’t know fully, as I don’t know condition of Pershing now. I would say her goal was to get him to the mind flayer machine and find a way to nuke his memories. We don’t know yet what all is being wiped, but she turned it way up, so I think most of, if not all, his memory will be gone. This will ensure he is not able to report any more details to the New Republic and warn them of the potential dangers of his research. And now she has or at least knows what equipment is needed to continue his research. Why do this? Seems clear she is still loyal to Giddeon, who we may now know has escaped custody. I think. Not sure how reliable that gossip was. If this is true, what is Gideon’s mission? See below.

I mean, it’s been there, but it hasn’t fully connected it yet directly, yet. We have learned that the reason Gideon wanted Grogu was for his blood, specifically, his midichlorians. We learned also in s2, that Pershing was using that material on volunteers/hosts. I forget the word he used, but it was a term like that. We have known since before s1 that this would explore the early days of the creation of the First Order. Now that we know Palpatine was behind it (sigh), it seems clear that Gideon was enacting one of his failsafes and the hosts Pershing was working on was a new body for Palpatine (including Rey’s father) and/or Snoke. We know Rey’s dad didn’t have the force. He is likely the results of the testing happening during this time. Between Snoke and the new Palpatine bodies, it all leads to the creation of the First and Final Order.

She is likely still working for Gideon. She now has the equipment to continue the research Gideon was working on.

Also, not a fan of Bo being considered part of the cult. Really hoping it’s just temporary and that she persuades them to not be a cult haha like it’s okay, mandos. If she sticks with it, I’ll be disappointed.

Episode was a little strange. I mean it was cool to live in that amnesty world but I really just wanted more Din and Bo doing their thing, especially after the intro.

And yeah it seems they are trying to redeem that cloning arc, that has been there since season 1.

If I’m Bo I’m like why are we leading them back to my house? Lol. What did she think would happen?

and it does seem that Kane was still loyal to the empire. But you’d think she’d need Pershing. Maybe his memories won’t be fully gone but now he will be susceptible to her orders or something.

Super interesting episode that I think really highlighted the flaws of the New Republic. I think they did a good job showing that unfortunately many of the same people who lived in the Empire don’t care enough to see or be different under the New Republic. Those in charge of the amnesty program believe they are doing good, but are using similar tactics to what came before (mind flayer, using numbers instead of names, impersonal droids) and while it’s better, it’s also easy to exploit and foment rage. The program is originated at the end of the Alphabet Squadron series and is presented very differently as more of an accountability and atonement program rather than one that is so bureaucratic. The second major one is the immediate demilitarization now expanded to include technology made the New Republic really ineffective at dealing with major issues, which the novel Bloodline expands on a lot more. Definitely worth a read if you’re interested in the politics side that led into Force Awakens and the rise of the First Order or just want a great older Leia/Han novel.

People thought space whales were random too. I don't believe you have enough information to call anything random yet. Everyone is just having Boba Fett PTSD. This is a regular episode of television.

I enjoyed this episode. Don’t mind spending time with characters who’s name aren’t in the show title

I mean, I think they should have put parts of Pershing in each of the last two episodes.

3.1: we see the Pershing stuff up to when he gets the biscuits. This would give us something new to see as the vast majority of the premiere was recap and having the same conversations.
3.2: the stuff from then up to before they go to get the lab stuff. While I don’t think 2 needed anything, they could have put this in between some of the trips to and from Mandalore. Let it feel like there was travel time.
3.3: them leaving and up to what we saw. Maybe move some of the end of two into here.

he is not a random character and it’s not a random story. While very minor, he was in 1.1 and 1.3, setting up the cloning plot. In 2.4 we see his hologram notes or whatever, again continuing the cloning plot. Then he is in 2.8 where he is captured and helps Mandi get Grogu back. He tells him the truth of what he would find on the ship. So, all we saw today makes sense and continues what we have seen the past two seasons. I just think they should have rearranged how the story was told. Suddenly devoting so much time to a minor character and spending very little time with our leads is an odd choice and not what the show has done so far. It’s kind of weird to do that three seasons in.

Disney should set up some sort of tip line where people can call in with their edits

I thought it was just okay, obviously the Mando parts were the best, but as someone who kind of prefers to pretend the ST is not canon I'm a little bummed this show is gonna lead into it

Weird episode. I’m sure it’ll tie into things later. It did remind me how little I remember about the New Republic/ First Order stuff.

I know people are still annoyed by resolving the Grogu arc in BOBF, but it’s about to get a whole lot worse with Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew haha
