  1. I regret to inform everyone I just rewatched Lady in the Water and it's one of his best. Really beautiful, misunderstood, and original film.

that's wild to me lol. movie is like a community theatre production of a kid's bedtime story where the dad is also the hero

  7. It actually brings a unique cast of characters together to solve a problem that isn't reliant on a twist. The fantasy elements are really original and much of the film is quite feel-good/cozy. Giamatti rules, obviously, but Shyamalan does pretty well as an actor! The stuff with the movie critic is whatever, but I don't think Shyamalan's appearance in the film is as egregious as others do.

happy for you enjoying it truly but I've hated that film for so long it's probably a part of my DNA lol, I think it's too late to change my mind on this

fwiw I've always thought Shyamalan was a pretty solid actor! it's just the role in LITW is weird. particularly like him in Signs

I know it wasn’t directed by Shyamalan, but I believe he wrote Devil (2010). It was a neat little film. Not executed well, but it definitely deserves a watch.

A lot of the hatred for Lady in the Water came at a time where people were trying to take Shyamalan down. You might still hate it but it might be worth a rewatch.

I strongly disliked it of my own volition, long before I had any awareness of The Discourse or even that there was a shift against Shyamalan's work at the time. I simply watched it with my family and we all thought it sucked

My key takeaway was how one of the dads said he had a gun in the truck… but they drove a LandRover LR4 suv to the cabin. One hour left in the movie though.

Ehh, I’ve met people who call their SUVs trucks. It’s dumb, but not completely unheard of.

I think a SUV definitely is considered a truck. A crossover is maybe pushing it.

Maybe I’m bias due to living in a place that gets a ton of snow. A car ain’t getting out of a driveway with 6 inches of snow whereas a “truck” will be fine.

Some trucks and SUVs are built off the same frames and chassis
