If the shows are indoors, then yep I'm all for matinee shows. But outdoor shows need to be in the dark.
I love Forest Hills Stadium for it's strict 10pm curfew, but it's always weird for me to see the headliner come on when the sun is still out.

Rather than matinees, I'd rather headliners play from like 8:30-10 vs 9:30-11. I have a shorter commute home than 95% of the crowd in my city but it still can be rough with work the next day.

Matinees don't really work for touring because you can't really have a show at 1 pm on a wednesday afternoon

    Hard same. The dream:
    Doors: 6:30.
    Opener: 7-7:45.
    Headliner 8:15-10.
    Bed by 11.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

I'm literally moving to a Metro Detroit suburb at the end of April so I can be 30 minutes from any venue on that side of the state.

This PLEASE. Being an hour away from the nearest major city that normally has shows, it can definitely be rough. 10pm hard stop at every show is the dream.

Just curious…all these people complaining that an 11pm end for a show is too late…do you have kids?

Around age 30 I noticed my friends that got married and had kids were muchhhh harder to get to a weekday show. But my queer friend group (95% child free) found late shows not an issue during a weekday.

It’s interesting to see the queer group extend the recreationally social phase of their lives vs the ones with kids giving up that phase much earlier…nothing wrong with either way, just interesting.

39 and no kids. It's more a question of energy levels when you're 35+. If you add kids to the mix then, yeah, definitely harder to get out during the week.

I’m 34 with no kids and no significant other. No issue with late shows or early shows. If a show runs too late and the commute back home sucks, work can be tough the next morning, but it’s always worth it for me if it’s someone I really want to see.

I don't have kids and mid 30's, and I live in the heart of a city, but I still have some issues with later shows.

    1) Actually getting there on time. My commute to work is a solid hour (sometimes more), so for me to be home, have food, and then get an uber to a show... it's tough. Leaving work at 6 is early for me, so that's home around 7 , spend a little time with my wife and eat, and then get an uber and it's 8 or so that I'm at the venue so I'll miss most opening acts. If shows bumped up earlier, I'd miss even more.

    2) My other issue with weekday shows is also a personal one and it's a struggle with drinking. I often over indulge and end up feeling awful the next day. The easy answer is don't drink, but without going into too much detail, I fail at that more often than not so I don't like to go to too many shows in the week and give myself the excuse to drink.

I know, I know... Get to work earlier so I can leave earlier and just don't drink... Change is easier said than done though.

Neither one of those reasons will stop me 100%, but they give me pause when thinking about if a weeknight show is worth it.

Not sure this helps but I often enjoy just having something to hold and sip, so ordering a ginger ale or soda can prevent from over indulging.

My biggest issue with weeknight shows is just waking up for work the next day. On my old scheduled I needed to be up at 6, getting home at 11:30/12 makes the next day tough. My new schedule makes things easier but weeknights are almost always solo shows.

I hear ya on the drinking part! Also, the commute issue is very valid...I wonder how people in NYC or DC make it to a show after a 60min commute home, thats a huge obstacle.

Yeah this is it with me too. I have to wake up at 6 every morning, so if I’m rolling into bed at 11:30 or later, I know I’m gonna feel like crap the next morning. Or the entire day, for that matter

Just bought a ticket for Muse in Toronto tomorrow night (90 mile drive after work)…my tune might be different on late shows come Friday morning.

Most people can get to shows within 30-40 min from most places in NYC so it’s never THAT bad.

33, straight, no kids. I get up every day at 5 and work/commute takes up the majority of my day. I’m usually asleep by 9.
