Just watched Little Children….insane how bad that movie is and how great TÁR is. The ultimate level up.

I liked Little Children from what I remember. Jackie Earle Haley was great.

Whether a straight woman should be allowed to play a lesbian in cinema is not for me to answer, but Cate is literally playing a lesbian in Tar and I haven't seen really any backlash over it to where it's a big enough issue it needs to be A Thing? Twitter was kind of going off on her response, mainly about how she is currently playing a lesbian in Tar, but Vanity Fair just used the “If it was made now, me not being gay—would I be given public permission to play that role?” pull quote when they tweeted about this.

Maybe this movie should have been a book, because it seems some audiences are just totally inept at reading subtext. Completely missing the point.

Is he suggesting that Lydia Tár is racist? The Tár who adopted a little brown girl and regularly has to protect her from racist bullies? The Tár who did her ethnographic field work in the Amazon? Lydia Tár does not have a racist bone in her body

They think the audience is the punchline and the film (director?) is looking down on the country.

It isn't exactly the worst thing for her since she voluntarily takes the job, but yes for her the fall from prestige is a big deal.

In one sense it is obviously a massive fall from grace for her, but what also makes the ending brilliant is that you could interpret it as her finding bliss in that fall from grace. She was so caught up in her ego and everything being about her, that it becomes a genuine relief when nobody cares about her anymore, and she is able to actually care about the music itself again rather than her image or legacy

Her response to the brothel indicates that, at some level, she is seeking forgiveness, so it can be looked at as her putting in the work to get back to where she feels she belongs. It isn't racist to point out that World of Warcraft is far less prestigious. The same would have been true if it was an American video game.

This has always been my interpretation of the ending, the Leonard Bernstein tape she watches right before it is the key
