I just looked, her casting is on IMDb is listed as Anna Williams. Take that for what you will. I have literally never looked at it before now.

Ill watch this a 2nd time and think more, but overall really good, the game changes to David were okay, though maybe a little bit over the top. Pretty straight adapation for this section of the game.

I really like Bella as Ellie like 95% of the time, but sometimes the delivery is just too off from the game. Like the beginning of the episode when she finds the deer, those lines were just off to David and Buddy Boy. Not poor acting per se, but just not the delivery the situation needed.

Also, someone else said it here i think, but Craig really seems to lean into the corny and doesnt leave much room for subtlely. Several episodes he's written have had some really tropey/sappy/corny bits, dialogue especially. A lot of what David said, was shown, or could have been shown more, or implied differently.

Pacing - i really wish an extra 5-10 minutes an episodes here and there. This is at least the 3rd episode where the final shot has felt rushed towards and ended anti climatically.

Anyway, i really do love this show, but i love the game too, so i dont think there will ever be a 'perfect' episode, and it normally takes me two watches to focus more on what i like than i dont like.

One more everyone! (And wooo, high hopes for a good one and the least changes to the game, and i hope whatever is added is impactfull and additional value). Episode length worries me only 46 mins

I’m really enjoying the pacing of the show and it’s working really well in an episodic, “short story” way. Right call in this format

incredible episode - bella is incredible

And i get that that's always a sentiment where mileage will vary so im not saying youre wrong or im right. I just felt David was a bit too on the nose with his intentions and the dialogue a bit lacking. But ill watch again and see if i still feel the same.

I’m sorry for what happened within the last several posts and I don’t want a recreation of the last week.

It was a great episode and was pretty faithful to the game. I enjoyed it a lot!

Yeah I did not like David as a villain. He turned into such a stereotypical bad guy by the end. The dialogue definitely felt cheesy.

I’m a little interested to hear why they made him religious rather than just resorting to his actions on his own. The religion aspect was not present in the game.

    Incredible episode, almost perfectly executed.

I like how we got a little more background into David and his group vs what we got in the game.

interesting decision to have no infected in this episode at all. I realize in the game where Ellie and David had to defeat the swarm of infected would not be as interesting as in the show but I feel like they could have at least incorporated that on a smaller scale, though it still works fine without it at all.

also prefer the game’s way of Joel meeting Ellie while she’s still in the building killing David. Him coming up and essentially stopping her from continuing felt slightly more powerful/emotional, not to say the way it was in the show wasn’t emotional it absolutely was

I was actually in the middle of writing a post about this too. I don't know if I'd necessarily call this a gripe per se but I do feel like the Infected should have had a tiny bit more of a presence in the show. Just knowing the game we probably won't really get them in the finale either; maybe just one or two more scenes with them may have been good to establish them more as an active threat to the protagonists. It's kind of a shame we'll likely only see clickers one time in the entire season

I think David absolutely fits a cult leader type. Made total sense to me.

Idk why but I thought they were gonna reveal he was a convict before the outbreak who escaped since the world went to shit

I agree but I can see both ways. The show version gives her full agency in the moment but I did appreciate him finding her and trying to placate/comfort her in the game

I do find it a bit quick sometimes tbh, but could just be used to other shows and games spending more time with some of these locations in their own stories. Like the villians don't feel AS...not scary, not sure what the right word is...but it's to the point where I'm just waiting for Joel or Ellie to waste whoever the monster of the week is haha, like I'm not expecting them to make it to the next episode and carry on a whole arc and all that.

Which my experience with video games says yeah that makes sense that's usually how video games are, it just takes a ton longer to get through it because you're actually playing it and etc.

So as a show it feels a lot quicker when you're just watching what essentially are the cut scenes in the game that advance the plot...but it makes for really fucking good TV! And hopefully it shows future game adaptations you don't have to change shit or invent a whole new story or etc, you can literally just do a slightly expanded version of your game's cut scenes and if the story is good and the acting is good, it'll work very well!

That's actually exactly what I was wondering, if it can feel like one of those Youtube videos that just compiles all the cutscenes and takes the gameplay out, and those of us who played the game use our own context to kind of fill in the gaps. Glad that doesn't seem to be the case though!

been feeling this way for a few eps now, but I wanted to hold my tongue until we were closer to the end to see if my gut feeling changed at all— overall I love the show, and think a lot of the changes they’ve made have been great but, while I understand wanting to not have any filler or anything that drags, I do find myself feeling like they’ve trimmed just a hair too much fat off. can’t tell yet just how much of that is knowing the game and how much more is involved in each scenario tho. part of me def wishes I could view this through the eyes of someone experiencing the story for the first time, so I am not constantly comparing things in my head and that might help me not feel like pieces are missing or things don’t breathe as much as they should/could. if nothing else, I just wish we could have gotten more time of just Ellie and Joel roaming around and getting to know one another, I think it would have made the payoff for the “babygirl” moment tonight feel just that much more earned— whereas as of now it feels kind of like we’re just meant to infer a lot of that bonding happened offscreen, which feels kind of a shame given they’re the main characters and the story kind of hinges on their growing bond with each other.
