Yes, you have to declare which park you want to hold the event in, not just say "We want to hold an event in any park".

  3. buttsfamtbh

then why didn't they apply for other parks?

Because why would they? They want to stay in Douglass Park.

Where did the rumor of a "Wrigley band" playing this year come about? The options at that range are fairly limited. So Green Day or Foo Fighters would make a ton of sense.

After looking into that poster's other comments on Reddit about music... I'm not giving them any creedence as to their "inside info" that it's Green Day. Feels like it might have been a "somebody on Inforoo who was right once said it so therefore it must be true and I'm gonna post about it in a weird way on the Internet" kinda thing.

Kinda like how people in prior years have taken shit we've been speculating on in here (that we all know are just blind guesses) and posted it on Reddit with the qualifier that "people are saying..." LOL

just ignore the views of the people that actually live in that community then, or that they basically shut down the route to a hospital for 3 days because the park is right next to it. the people that live there are making it pretty clear they don't want the festival or any festival taking over that park. but no yeah that's not a bad look

That's what this process allows for...

What more do you want? I don't like the festival being there, either. But this is the process the park district settled on and they have every right to request use of Douglass Park through it. Don't like it? Bitch to the park district, not me.

Am I misinterpreting what most of the issues were last year? It seemed like the issue wasn't so much Riot Fest as it was the the fact that there was not one, but three different festivals taking up space in the park.

There were people who had complaints/issues in previous years. But they were relatively minor. And most of what I recall from last year wasn't "there's a festival in the park and Riot Fest does damage to it" so much as "there's three festivals now which clogs up the park for X+ weeks out of the year."

The other two festivals have since moved. If Riot is the only festival in the park, I think it might be a different story now?

There have been a fair number of complaints about Riot Fest specifically before this year. The addition of two other festivals only exacerbated things.

Only one festival has moved. Lyrical Lemonade hasn't made any announcement yet.

While it may be a slightly different story with possibly only one festival, the well has been poisoned.

It would be wise for them to consider alternate locations but I also understand how that would negatively impact their business. The process is new, let's see if Riot Fest holds up their end of the process.

The new process could be an opportunity for real dialogue. If I were Riot Mike, I’d learn from last year’s disastrous community meeting and be there personally to work with the community this year. Obviously you’re not gonna win everyone over, but if you’re gonna stay in Douglass you have to at least try to make peace with the people you’re inconveniencing.

I don't believe shows in Minneapolis have ever been a factor in any of the clauses (but it's an 80-85 mile radius depending on the venues)

Gary is about a 25 mile radius, it probably eliminates Weezer

Ignoring the clause, the casino would have to approve Weezer playing at Riot

It's not that big tbh. Gary only came into being with Hollywood Casino booking shows that overlap.

Otherwise, nothing major is even close. Alpine Valley might be the only thing.

off topic but i just got bummed out by The Vandals promoting one of the fox news shitheads wearing their merch. feel like its been known joe Escalante is right wing for a awhile but having it confirmed that the band as a whole endorses it is a bit of a gut punch as they were my first punk band.
also reading the comments im a tad shocked there's so many comments praising it, wouldnt have guessed they had so many right wing fans, but who knows those comments could be from people just following the hashtag

If you knew all the artists that actually leaned right, you'd probably be deleting a lot of mp3s..

so I wouldn't even worry about it

I think no Chicago date (even though there is a Gary date) puts Weezer in play

Weezer is also playing in New Jersey Riot Fest Sunday. And obviously it would be entirely doable for them to do both, but it also doesn't make them look super likely

Even Freese too??? That’s a bummer

But yeah, there’s a weirdly large amount of right-wing, Trumpy, anti-vax punk fans. It really sucks

Freese is definitely not right wing

I mean, he's played with Springsteen and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters played the DNC in 2012)

Well, their singer just commented this on their recent post, so looks like he’s not right wing either… (thank god)
