It happened a few times in 2021 and generated a lot of good press at the time. Apparently he really had fun doing it and I think it would play well at Riot Fest

 

I has never heard about this before and now I want it bad. Life is hard being a Smiths fan in a world where Morrissey is a dickhead.

 

The headliners don't do a ton for my tastes but your mid/low tier acts make this an absolute slam dunk for me. I hope you're right!

 

I remember taking to Jay from Hopesfall at Furnace Fest 2 years ago. I told him that I hoped they would be on RF and he told me that a lot of people did but it didn't work out for them. Hoping that this year will be the year.

 

Rick Astley doing a Smiths cover set & ending with Never Gonna Give You Up would be perfect for Riot & a can't miss set for so many people. I'd feel bad for anyone playing against that

 

Riot is promoting Braid's vinyl reissue of Frame & Canvas. I guess that helps with the theory they are playing

 

I kinda feel like Saturday would have a better shot at having Postal Service/DCFC as a double-billed top line with BMTH, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Rancid on the second (in that order).

Rick Ashley doing Smiths covers would be billed higher and would honestly be such a cool get. Haha. Creative, fun idea if that actually happens!

Thinking about that Deftones/Trivium/Helmet/Death/Scene Queen stage makes me really happy. (I'd prefer Trivium get swapped out for... somebody more "hardcore" leaning but they're probably a bigger draw so it makes sense).

Oh, and unfortunately... Larry and His Flask broke-up. No more shows for the time being.

 

The foo fighters have a July show in Milwaukee. I know it’s just outside the 90 miles but it’s under the whatever days riot fest uses

okay so THAT stage probably would make sense but my schedule was way more convoluted.

Death (the protopunk band from Detroit, not the metal band) is on RISE after Omnigone, Bridge City Sinners, and the Exploited and before Agent Orange, Goldfinger, and The Offspring.

Deftones plays RIOT from 6-7 between Echo & the Bunnymen and Siouxsie

Scene Queen, ‘68, Helmet and Trivium close out REBEL.

That’s part of the reason I figured riot might have a shot at them. They can technically play Chicago but probably wouldn’t have the demand that soon after playing Milwaukee to fill Wriggly.

 

Foo Fighters would be cool and all but I really hope they steer clear of that. Given the massive "culture-shock" and crowd sizes MCR triggered last year... I'd kinda like to never experience that again. Haha.

 

i dont think a run of the mill yearly foo fighter show would have the rabid 'everyone must camp and try to shove to the front' type of frenzy of a 1 time only mega-reunion like mcr. big crowd for sure, but i wouldnt imagine it being out of control. i doubt it would crack top 3 of gnarliest (in a bad way) crowds in riot history (mcr, system, and blink?) haha

 

Exactly. And tbh, I don’t even think MCR would have been that bad if they had JUST KEPT THE DAMN RIOT/ROOTS SETUP LIKE THEY HAD IT IN 2021!!

Anytime anyone says “X artist is too big for Douglas Park” I just want to say “not with the proper stage placement they’re not”.

 

Foo Fighters have been seemingly everywhere post-pandemic and are not as in demand as MCR is (especially with the tragic passing of Taylor Hawkins)

I could see it working.

 

Foo Fighters are still plenty big, but are playing a good amount of mid-size festival this year. So I could see them doing Riot. Same goes for Green Day, at this point

The only comment I have is the RF person saying Grant Park "isn't exactly easy to get to" which made me laugh because it's right near a bunch of subway stations, bus stops, and train (Metra) stations

 

FFS Grant Park is easy to get to from nearly every direction. Only argument you can have is if you take the Metro in to either Union or Ogilvie but even then - hop on a bus or walk. It's not far.

Also fairly certain the Pink Line stations support 6-car trains at a minimum.

 

When we were at the United center for a bulls game earlier in the month the pink line going by only had four cars and we both found that odd.

 

Other than the busier lines they will run 4 car trains outside of rush hour.

The overnight lines will see four car trains late at night.

Holidays are the most fun when you see two car trains on the blue line.

 

It’s also downright criminal there’s no stop for the United Center.

 

interesting that the reddit thread has semi-insider claims for both pearl jam & green day posted at almost the same time. and if the rumor of a 'Wrigley band' playing this year pretty much would have to be either one of them or foo fighters.

Honestly though, its due time Green Day plays Riot, but next year would be the anniversary of American Idiot and Dookie, so an album play in 2024 would be cooler

 

Not exactly. They're allowed to apply for whatever park they want to host an event in. It then has to go through the new process the park district has where they have to go through a community questions period, address those concerns, and then present everything to the board of commissioners.
