    The Mummy (1999) - 7/10

    Skinamarink - 9.5/10

The strangest triple-feature. Skinamarink truly scared me in a way I haven't felt in a long time.

one could argue that Skinamarink is a pretentious mess of a film where nothing really happens or that it's absolutely terrifying. I'm mostly in the latter portion

  6. I was worried about being in the former camp for the first 20 minutes or so, and then as the house shifted it really began to work for me.

Late Night - Not as funny as I had hoped, but a mostly enjoyable, heartwarming comedy. Mindy Kaling was great and Emma Thompson was solid as a pseudo Letterman.

Black Bear - I got about 40 mins in and I just wasn’t in the mood for it. Maybe if I wasn’t on a plane when I was watching it I would have hit different. It is aggressively uncomfortable right out of the gate and never treads from that. I will probably finish it at some point though.

I want to give it another shot in a different setting because it’s been on my list for a while. I already get anxious enough on planes so it was just too much for me.

I just saw Plane by myself in a theater. Totally empty.

It was pretty good actually! The acting was great and I actually think the directing was great as well.

The only thing that bothered me was the ending. It felt like they had half a movie idea and had no idea how to do a satisfying/thrilling ending.

They, ahem, didn't land it well, but it was overall enjoyable.

    7/10

Broker - I was not really into it for the first 15-20 mins (it felt like a lazy and stripped-down American remake of a better foreign film if that makes sense), but eventually, it comes together and turns into something quite good, and at times moving.

  14. Sick -5/10
Lean and mean as a slasher should be, but the twist/reveal was soooo bad.

    Dogtooth - 6.5/10
Really strong writing, directing, and performances. Tonally inconsistent and intentionally unpleasant. This one will probably grow on me.

    Evil Toons - 7.5/10
Extremely horny 90s direct-to-video horror-comedy schlock. Right up my alley.

    Extra Ordinary - 7.5/10
Higgins and Forte are so funny in this. Really pleasant and easy to watch!

  19. Some scenes are definitely a little dry and about as longwinded as I remember, but it's a great film and a very good Tarantino film. Wouldn't be in my top three of his, though.

Out of Sight - It's not Ocean's level and the romance between JLo and Clooney seemed a little rushed, but overall I really liked this. A fun, slick crime movie which is really where Soderbergh shines.

Athena - Probably the best opening of any film I saw in 2022. Unfortunately, the rest of the film doesn't live up to it. While the decision to rely mostly on single takes keeps the tension and gravity of the situation high, it doesn't allow us much time to know the three brothers or any of the true complexities of their relationship to one another. They end up all feeling one-dimensional and it brings everything down.

Bull Durham - I finally rounded out the unofficial Kevin Costner baseball trilogy. It's simultaneously more watchable than For The Love of Game, but also worse. It's full of unnatural line deliveries to the point where it has to be intentional. Also, this is an extremely silly gripe, but Bull Durham sounds like an iconic name for a baseball player. I was surprised to learn that the title is just the team name ("Durham Bulls") out of order and Costner's character is actually named Crash Davis. Huge missed opportunity.

  24. Videodrome - 8/10

I've never seen a movie that makes more sense thematically and less sense plot-wise every time I watch it.
