Wonder how this VP debate will turn out; Kaine seems much more nerdy/policy geek than Biden was, so doubt we'll get something as animated as Biden was back in 2012. Haven't seen any video of Pence speaking/know anything about him, so it'll be interesting to watch how it all unfolds

I think it says a lot about this election that a VP candidate wanting to repeal Roe V Wade isn't being discussed

It's good to know that female employees should feel an obligation to blow their male superiors. I wouldn't have been aware of this ethically sound principle if not for this gentleman who somehow managed to earn a law degree from one of the least respected law schools in the country.

I originally posted this in the sexism thread, but given the intentionally political nature of the post and that misogyny is a central component of the Trump platform anyways, I figured it might fit better in here.

(Also, is there a way to include an uploaded image in the body of the post instead of as an attachment without having to host it somewhere else first?)

  9. Searching for the Truth in Trump's 1995 Tax Return
As I’ve noted before, I’ve seen Trump’s tax returns -- in conjunction with an unsuccessful libel suit he filed against me in 2006 for my book “TrumpNation.” While I can’t write specifically about what I saw, I can say that the returns would give voters useful and tangible insights into Trump’s actual track record as a businessman, philanthropist and taxpayer.

But Trump has chosen not to release his returns. And I doubt he ever will, because they would reveal that the career he boasts so much about is built on sand. That’s just one reason the 1995 tax return anonymously sent to the Times is so valuable. It refutes Giuliani’s argument in big numbers (numbers that even the Trump campaign does not dispute).

Most of the $916 million loss that Trump claimed for 1995 is probably derived from about $900 million in bank loans taken out in the mid- to late 1980s that he had personally guaranteed and that he used to wildly overpay for hotels, airlines, yachts, barren land and other trinkets. Trump couldn’t afford to buy any of this with his own money, he lacked the good judgment and foresight to pay the right price for almost everything he bought, and once he bought all of it, the interest payments on the loans quickly became unmanageable. Corporate bankruptcy ensued.

Coming into this election, I thought it was just part of his brand, but yeah, he's detached.

Barack Obama on 5 Days That Shaped His Presidency
"I mean this sincerely: I’m glad the left pushes me on this. I’ve said to my staff and I’ve said to my joint chiefs, I’ve said in the Situation Room: I don’t ever want to get to the point where we’re that comfortable with killing. It’s not why I wanted to be president, to kill people. I want to educate kids and give people health care and help feed the hungry and alleviate poverty. So do I think that the critiques are fair or fully informed? Not always. Sometimes they are. Much of the time they’re not. To give you the most basic example: People, I think, don’t always recognize the degree to which the civilian-casualty rate, or the rate at which innocents are killed, in these precision strikes is significantly lower than what happens in a conventional war."

    1. Killing is not ok, even if it makes you uncomfortable. War torn regions and victims of strikes don't care how comfortable you were in orchestrating the murder of their families and neighbors.
    2. People are saying no "precision" strikes, no violent militarism overseas, and no conventional war. The left isn't saying stop the drone strikes and civilian casualties let's go all our war, what the hell kind of an argument is this.
Fuck this guy. I would say good riddance but we're getting an even more despicable monster next. goddamnit this is depressing.

If I could just forget it

Hillary Clinton has repeatedly advocated for a no-fly zone in Syria, which the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff recently said would necessitate war with Russia.

    So yeah, extremely depressing.

I feel like its super easy to sit back and criticize Obama for pulling the lever on the trolley track while you watch the outcome from a hill. Simply saying "killing is not okay" grossly over simplifies many harsh realities. "All Human life is sacred" is a better mantra. Killing certainly should not be the first option, but I don't believe we live in a world where it can actually be a non-option.

when the lives that will be saved outnumber the lives that will be lost? Its certainly not an easy question to answer. But if ordering a drone strike that would kill 20 people was the only way to stop a terror cell that would kill 2000 people... is it really the wrong move to make?

Ultimately I'm glad it is someone else having to answer those questions. But I don't believe the answer is always "no"
