Binged both seasons in January. I’m team Hawaii>Italy but they were both so incredible.

 

First season is definitely stronger IMO but the second ruled. Hyped for whatever is next whether Tokyo or somewhere else. I have complete faith in Mike White.

 

HBO is going to be half of the best drama category lol

 

Armand is just the best character, I’m like obsessed, and nothing comes close to his arc.

I just finished this and im fairly certain tanya going full rambo and then falling off the boat in spectacular fashion is my favorite scene of any show ever

 

My lady and I binged both seasons earlier this month after great word of mouth and honestly we were really let down both seasons. They seemed to build you up for epic endings and follow throughs, but nothing about it was quenching. I think i enjoyed season 1 more, but season 2 atleast had a better ending. But I wouldn't even call them endings. Its like you learn about these characters, but none of them get a final resolution except one a season.

I dig the show but those are valid criticisms

 

Similarly to how I feel about most TV, I don't think it's meant to be binged.

 

Mike White has admitted himself in interviews that that false expectation is intended to fake you out in believing a sensationalized sort of climax is coming. But he prefers us to read in between the lines and discover the sinister stuff in the subtext.

 

As much as I'm looking forward to the next season I'm even more looking forward to the main theme remixed yet again.

 

My take is that season 1 is just outright bad. The camera set ups are amateurish, the characters are so one dimensional, and the writing isn’t near as funny as it think it is. Season 2 is a masterpiece, though.

It’s just straight up wrong. You might not have enjoyed it but it’s no where near bad.

 

Some characters are one dimensional sure but it provides context to the ones that aren’t. I thought the camera work was fine. And season 1 was way funnier imo, I prefer more of the focus on the staff and how the shitty rich people impact them rather than primarily on the shitty rich people.

 

Watched both series back to back and really enjoyed it. I don't know if it is widely known in America but the airline thwy are queueing for at the end of season 2, easyjet, is a low cost airline here in England and is considered one of the worst airlines available. Definitely not an airline the rich folks would take.

I think that's what I liked about it. The music, and the establishing shots, often instilled a sense of dread, that never quite happened on the scale that the atmosphere implied. It had a lot of great emotional drama though, which is often as engaging as physical action if done well. Also in season 2 I totally thought the fight in the ocean was going to lead to one of them getting drowned even though that didn't really make sense with the beginning of the season. I love the almost fake out nature of the tone. Sure, both seasons had violence and tragedy, but a lot of the drama was pretty mundane (in the grand scheme of things) squabbling between couples, parents, children, bosses etc.

 

Danny DeVito would be such a great fit
