SWB is the best National record.

FTPoF is the best National record that needs to release a second single ASAP and move up the release date by two months.

I need to listen to SWB again because it never fully clicked with me.

The trio of Empire Line, I'll Still Destroy You, and Guilty Party is something holy

Walk it back and born to beg are okay, all the songs on swb are great. It definitely had to grow on me a bit though.

First half of Beast is only ok. Everything from "Empire Line" to the end is superb, though.

I could do without Walk It Back and Turtleneck. Other than that the album is pretty much perfect.

Turtleneck is a bit of an oddball

Sleep Well Beast is walking out of a bar by yourself into a deserted downtown right after a rain at an hour that is way too late for your age. There’s street lamps and brake lights reflecting off the sidewalk and the occasional person loitering around or stumbling home but it’s just you and your thoughts as you slowly walk back not to your tiny studio apartment to pass out alone but to the large condo you bought last year to be reunited with your sleeping spouse and young kid. You don’t miss being out every night and you only did this because it was your friend’s birthday. Every song is a perfect piece of the whole experience.

SWB is my favorite National album by a lot. I don’t know if it’s because it was my introduction to the National or what, but the album is perfect. I don’t get the Walk it Back hate. That’s one of my favorites. So moody

Walk it Back is absolutely phenomenal

I'd be fine never hearing Born to Beg, Day I Die or Turtleneck ever again

Follow up to my last post:

High Violet is getting thrown out of your college’s local bar for harassing strangers about how Vanderlyle is the best song ever written. You see a spider and you yell “IT TAKES AN OCEAN NOT TO BREAK!” Almost instantly afterward, you hear a window slide open above you and someone shout “Shut the F up, it’s 1am!” You call the last girl you hooked up with and she doesn’t answer. So you call your mom and she doesn’t answer either. You’ve got to get your life together. This is unsustainable.

Honestly I’d take an album of Turtleneck over more piano ballads from this band. I’m full-up on National piano tracks.

fully recognise I'm in the minority here but to me it's the laziest song they've ever written. the chorus especially is straight up awful imo. it's like they're parodying Kings of Leon

We are talking about the song where he sings “the day ah dah” over and over. What song are you talking about?
