  1. I assumed Yellowcard was much more popular than Good Charlotte, but looking at their Spotify monthly listeners, GC has 5 million and YC has 3.5 million. Weird!

GC def had more crossover pop hits but YC probably had more “cred” in the scene. If they package a couple bands from WWWY I could see them doing larger venues.

That whole time period was really funny. Message boards (even this very site) were proliferated with people saying Good Charlotte and Simple Plan were "gay" and "lame TRL sellouts" while New Found Glory and Yellowcard had almost undying devotion. To outsiders, there was almost no difference between these bands but there was a weird cred hierarchy that existed. I assume it was due to NFG and Yellowcard putting out smaller releases first and building up while GC and SP were signed to a major instantly and seemingly just came out of nowhere.

I was always under the impression that Good Charlotte was just a little bigger than Yellowcard.

But now, I think all of the “pop punk big 5” are all kinda equal in popularity

Who are the big 5? The top two are blink and Green Day who are both far more popular than the rest.

Not counting Blink and Green Day (since they’ve always been far more popular) but I’ve considered the big five:

Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Simple Plan, New Found Glory, Yellowcard

Hey. Who’s the pop punk band breaking up?

And can we talk about their Spotify streams?

Anyone know when B&C actually is getting back together? I’m hearing “rumors”.

Gotcha. Disregarding those two, I would definitely agree those are the big 5.

That being said, there was a smaller window where Bowling for Soup were right up there. 1985 was huge, and Girl All the Bad Guys Want was nominated for a Grammy.

Edit: FOB, though not really a pop punk band after Infinity, definitely belong in the conversation too.

I mean, they’re pretty big in the UK, and I think Download sometimes tends to book non-“heavy” bands.

Yeah Bowling For Soup are definitely an odd duck. I remember when you couldn’t turn on an alt rock station without hearing 1985, but now I don’t think they’re on par popularity-wise with other pop punk bands of that era

They altered their set for Projekt Revolution after playing a more mellow set a few times to concentrate on the bangers. Was one of the few tours they begrudgingly played "Pure Morning" and "Nancy Boy"

Sad summer should be moved to the Aragon in Chicago this is sales between that and yellowcard. It’s just embarrassing for sad summer

Sad Summer in the tri-state area should be moved to Stone Pony Summerstage and not PNC

Counterpoint: Sad Summer should stay in its current venues but add 2-3 more mid/uppercard acts per date.

Coversation Types on Chorus.fm's Tour Prediction and Speculation Thread

A.) "Pheh, no way this band can play venues that big. Look at these early ticket sales/Spotify numbers, what a bunch of looooosers!"

B.) "What? I've never heard of this artist before, how can they possibly be popular?!"

I think a bands popularity varies on what metric you measure it by. Good Charlotte had massive crossover with young and hopeless album but none of the singles released since then haven't really had staying power outside of the core fanbase. The same could be said about Yellowcard but especially here in England their highs were nowhere near as high as GC. Bowling for soup still gets the odd play on alt radio here, usually Girl All The Bad Guys Want but their core fanbase has always been smaller.

BFS can sell out 2k venues on the right package. Their tour with Less than Jake last summer did really well
