This fall, DreamWorks Animation’s leche-loving, swashbuckling, fear-defying feline returns! For the first time in more than a decade, a new adventure in the Shrek universe will unfold as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Universal Pictures today unveiled a first look image featuring the whiskered hero, his partner in adventure Kitty and a new canine companion — and the roster of voices bringing Puss in Boots: The Last Wish to life.

In the long-awaited sequel, Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives (though he lost count along the way). Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet. Academy Award nominee Antonio Banderas returns as the voice of the notorious PiB as he embarks on an epic journey into the Black Forest to find the mythical Wishing Star and restore his lost lives. But with only one life left, Puss will have to humble himself and ask for help from his former partner and nemesis: the captivating Kitty Soft Paws (Oscar nominee Salma Hayek).

In their quest, Puss and Kitty will be aided — against their better judgment — by a ratty, chatty, relentlessly cheerful mutt, Perro (Harvey Guillén, What We Do in the Shadows). Together, our trio of heroes will have to stay one step ahead of Goldilocks (Oscar nominee Florence Pugh, Black Widow) and the Three Bears Crime Family, “Big” Jack Horner (Emmy winner John Mulaney, Big Mouth) and terrifying bounty hunter, The Big Bad Wolf (Wagner Moura, Narcos).

The all-star comedic cast also includes Oscar winner Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Samson Kayo (Sliced), Emmy nominee Anthony Mendez (Jane the Virgin) and Tony nominee Da’Vine Joy Randolph(Trolls World Tour).

Joel Crawford is directing this epic follow-up to the Oscar-nominated 2011 blockbuster, with Mark Swift as producer — the creative team behind DreamWorks Animation’s smash The Croods: A New Age. The film’s executive producer is Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri.

The character of Puss in Boots first appeared in 2004’s Oscar-nominated Shrek 2 and instantly became a global, scene-stealing sensation. Puss then co-starred in two other Shrek sequels and his solo film, as well as in multiple DreamWorks Animation videos and TV series. The Shrek and Puss in Boots films have collectively earned more than $3.5 billion worldwide.

it's really funny to make another one ten years later but the first one was super weird and ruled and had Zach Galifianakis and Amy Sedaris

this was kind of a neat surprise, and about on par with the first puss in boots. fun voice acting from florence pugh, olivia colman and john mulaney (not as great as spider-ham, however), though harvey guillen won me over most. dreamworks punching above their normal weight in 2022 with this and the bad guys

I enjoyed this a pretty fair amount. Nothing hugely groundbreaking, but I like the shift in animation and Bandares/Hayek is always enjoyable

Took my kids to see this today and wow, yeah, I don’t know if this thing deserved to be as good as it was or not but I’m really surprised by how much I loved it. The reveal that the wolf is quite literally Death was a solid twist and honestly one of my new favorite animated villains. Just a really cool character execution between the animation shifts, that damned whistle, the red eyes, and the genuine terror Puss in Boots feels whenever he’s near is so effective. Didn’t expect them to step up the animation game the way they did with a second Puss in Boots movie, but hey it worked. Also personally got a little emotional during the scene when Puss is having a panic attack in the forest and Perrito gets to be a therapy dog and just rests his head on his chest to calm him.

it’s really beautiful but the plotting is super arbitrary (i know, i know, it’s a kids film) and many of the jokes went overboard (cuteness… OVERLOAD) so ultimately i prefer the rise of gru. still… state of computer animated kids films is pretty good

  20. The fight scene animation here blew my shoes and socks off. So grateful someone recommended this to me, I would’ve gone on assuming it was something a lot more mild than it ended up being. It’s a bummer that the few times I’ve recommended it to others it’s like they don’t really believe that it’s actually super good and not like a half assed attempt to cash in on Shrek related memes

My girlfriend walked by at the part where Perro is talking about being tied up in a bag and thrown in the river and was like what the fuck? Is this for children??

It’s so damn good. The wolf has got to be one of my favorite “villains” ever. They did such an amazing job with that character. Literally hair raising. And I know I said it before in here, but showcasing Puss suffering from anxiety and having a full blown panic attack only for Perro to rest his head on his lap to calm him as a therapy dog…yeah I teared up. I even loved the way they approached Goldilocks and her search for the family that’s right in front of her. Topping it all off with the incredible animation and willingness to play around with different styles, and it’s hard to believe that you can pretty easily tell people now that one of the best (honestly my personal favorite) films in the Shrek franchise is Puss In Boots 2.
