Thanks for reminding me to listen to this album again. It has been 3 days.

I haven't seriously listened to Fireworks before this album - is there a consensus on which of their previous albums is the best?

Gospel is the definite fan favorite.

gospel and oh common life are both perfect at being what they are

I would guess it’s based on when you got into them. I think they are both fantastic, and most days I have a hard time choosing which one I like better between Gospel or Oh, Common Life. Gospel retains just enough pop punk to still fit in with their tour mates TWY, NFG, TSSF, while OCL dropped most of that and started introducing some of the indie and post rock influence that this new album has.

All that to say, I’m going to guess if people are introduced to Fireworks through HLP, you’ll like OCL more than Gospel.

  6. took a small break from this album (it dominated January) and whelp I think I'm sucked right back in. I hope that even if Fireworks is never a fully active band that we get a new record at least a few times a decade. It's always so special.

Came back to this album again myself in the last couple weeks and it's been in heavy rotation again, was a little disappointed to see the plays so low on Spotify but for how strong it is. Looking forward to when we get a vinyl release announced.

If anything it's grown off me a bit since release...I do like it but I wish the vocals were stronger

Same here, something about the vocals throws me off. Don't know if it's Dave's voice or the production behind it. I find myself coming back to Wouldn't It Be Easy and Blood in the Milk regularly but not much else. Funny enough I didn't love Demitasse at first but now I'm going back to that more than the new release.

Yeah this still rips. I think I can say Funeral Plant is my definitive favorite but the whole thing is so good. Estate Sale has grown on my quite a bit.

Estate Sale may actually be my favorite from this at this point. Definitely overplayed it a bit in January and now have been taking a little break from it, but it's still pretty amazing

Yeah, imo this album is Dave’s best vocal performance by far

The vocal performance is fine. The vocal parts are sometimes underwhelming in comparison to OCL.

Vocals are more in line with what Dave can sing live. OCL and especially Gospel songs seem to be a struggle for him. I think the other two are technically better sounding vocal performances, but I would rather him write vocal lines he can comfortably sing live.
