PSA: tonight’s episode is only on HBO max and not on HBO. It won’t be on HBO until Sunday at the normal time.

Bless Craig Mazin. What he suggested the deviations be in these episodes have just made a massive impact and given these seemingly small parts in the game emotional depth.

What an episode. It had a touch of everything. And the minor changes from the game made it that much more impactful.

Every week I am just so endlessly impressed by how this show can follow the game so faithfully but add just enough that it only enhances the already incredibly written story. If it keeps up like this it honestly might be one of the best adaptations ever made

    For non-game players:

This one was largely faithful to the game for the most part. Joel and Ellie join Henry and Sam (who is not deaf in the game and has spoken dialogue) in trying to escape through the city. They go into the tunnels and come across the remnants of a colony, including the drawings on the walls and the school whiteboards. There are infected that you have to fight in this segment though. Having the comic book that Ellie and Sam love be Savage Starlight was a super nice touch because that's what it is in the game; those are collectibles that you find all around the world.

Much like in the game, there is a set piece with a sniper in a house who is shooting at you, and as Joel you sneak around back and kill him, then snipe out the window to save Ellie and the brothers from infected. Since Lynskey and her whole crew are not in the game, they're not in this part either, it's only infected that are enemies here. They find shelter and stay the night, and like in the show, Sam asks Ellie if she ever gets scared and then asks if the infected are still themselves when they turn. However, in the game he never shows Ellie his bite so she never tries to put her blood in it. They wake up in the morning and he has turned and attacks her, and Henry shoots him and then himself

@tdlyon in the game there are human enemies Joel has to kill on the way to the sniper and after he kills him to protect Ellie and the others, he just ends up not having to shoot other humans in the show

Yup that's right, I remember now. Not a giant set piece really like it was in the show though with humans vs. infected, kinda just another encounter right?

Man that was a great episode. I definitely think the changes were the right choices. Lamar and Keivonn were so good in their roles.

Ehh it kind of is, the hunter section after killing the sniper turns into the infected pretty fluidly.
