The second half of this is why is where the album really shines

 

Can't believe there are people who don't love "You First." That song is a fucking rocket ship.

Really digging this, more than I expected honestly. I've typically been more of a casual Paramore fan, but they're doing some really interesting things here, and I love how locked in the musicianship is.

 

Also, re: the hook conversation, I always roll my eyes when someone says "I can't even remember what the songs sound like" as an argument for why an album is bad. My first question is always "How many times have you listened to it?"

 

The stretch of songs from This Is Why to Thick Skull is just incredible

 

So, is it my car speakers, or is the mix on this thing kinda funky? Everything feels buried by the vocals.

 

I mean, is that not simply committing something to memory? A hook is an ear worm, designed to instantly catch the ear of the listener. I wouldn't describe having to repeatedly listen to something as a hook. If anything, it's the opposite.

 

I think it's your car speakers. Sounds incredible on headphones and speakers.

 

Enjoying this on two full listens. Still don’t care for CCC, though. That song is just grating outside of the bridge.

 

As someone who never been a Paramore fan - this is a fun listen.

 

I will say, it’s joyful to see how much the band loves and is embracing this album cycle.

 

Running Out of Time is the standout to me so far

Taylor’s work is phenomenal

The album is good

 

I’d wager that even some of the albums with the biggest hooks of all time, the average person would not be able to hum or sing me back the melodies after a single listen. Using “I can’t remember how that song sounds” as a criticism on day one is stupid, because most people have shitty recall!

 

Unless I misunderstood that Zane interview, sounds like Taylor and Zach aren't in love with You First either. Which is so strange to me, because it's a top tier track for me!

 

It’s the standout!

"big man little dignity" is just such a beautiful song

 

the way hayley's voice cracks and then immediately goes ethereal when she sings "NO / OFFENSE / but youuuuuuuuuu"

 

thick skull never did nothing for me!

 

I love how divided this record is. It’s either their best or worst! Interesting to see if that changes over time.

 

Got home from work as Crave ended in my car and walked inside to my wife listening to this on the TV and Thick Skull just starting. Wild stuff.

 

Seconding Running Out of Time being a highlight.

 

I’m really connecting with You First tonight

 

skimmed quickly through the first 2 tracks on the rebecca black album (never heard anything besides friday) and i already like it better than the paramore album. maybe they just needed to get this out of their system.

 

I listened to this album on my way home from work and really enjoyed it. It's impressive how they've transformed themselves and their sound over time.

 

give us a whole album of this. the lyrics are way better too.
