The theme of turning the other cheek and forgiving for the greater good isn't inherently right-wing or left-wing. But the antagonists have too much in common with right-wing online hate communities to ignore. Again, one of them literally committed a hate crime against one of the main characters because he was gay. I don't doubt I'm overanalyzing it to a degree, but I think there's a discussion to be had about the film's execution of that particular theme.

I suppose another reading could be that the extreme actions of the right are causing the apocalypse (bad things happen only after they begin sacrificing each other) and unfortunately that means the targets of their hate are the ones who are going to have to make sacrifices to save humanity. There's validity to that reading as there's a pro-environmental theme present as well. Fossil-fueled planes literally rain from the sky as a plague on humanity. As someone else point out here, the flash-forward vision of the happy future shows electric cars and I believe there were electric vehicles present in the last shot (I don't know for sure though). So I'm not trying to say this is some weird piece of right-wing propaganda. I highly doubt that was the intent.

I’m kind of back and forth on this. Loved the acting and directing, but didn’t feel there was much to take away from the ending.

One unimpeachably great thing: Rupert Grint punch-o-vision

I liked but didn’t love this. Love Dave though put him in everything. Also wish Ronald Weasley was around longer. I think he’s a solid actor.

when hard times hits they hit but sometimes they miss pretty badly when they'll also probably write an article about how unoriginal and franchise driven everything is in Hollywood

I just think it's pretty badass that he basically self finances his movies. And also that the French and Cahiers Du Cinema consistently give him huge acclaim

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

the Hard Times whips but yeah they missed on this one. most of the discourse around this movie sucks/acts like he's still in his bad era tho

I just watched OLD and while the story was interesting, the writing, actors/acting were so so bad. And why are mentally 6 year olds having sex with each other?

I just watched it too. They lead up to that a lot with them repeatedly saying that their thoughts were changing.

Damn, I thought this was pretty cool. But having read how the book ends, it could've been so much better. Agree with everyone that it petered out towards the end.

Ah, okay. I still feel like they were childish though, calling their parents mommy and daddy and such.

I liked this well enough, but I definitely though it ended with kind of a whimper instead of a thud. I wasn't expecting some wild and crazy signature M. Night twist, but I certainly didn't see it being just straight up, straight forward, and all true. Something about that felt really flat to me. Also, having then gone and read the ending of the book, I think it would've made for a much more interesting, thought-provoking final act.

Dave was incredible, though, as he is in virtually everything. As a twenty plus year wrestling fan, it's crazy to think it's the same guy I watched all those years.

Dave was great. So was Groff. But I’m curious to know what the spine tingling scene that one tweet was referring to. It was pretty uncomfortable when he’s first talking to the little girl.

I really liked… most of this. Not sure how I feel about the ending. Would’ve liked just a lil more ambiguity in the ending, instead of so directly saying “this was an actual end-of-the-world scenario that actually required someone in this family to kill his husband, for everyone else’s sake.” That part doesn’t really land great for me, personally, though maybe my feelings on that will evolve with time. But, otherwise, really good.

I fell asleep right after they sacrificed the redhead and woke up when the concussed dad gave a monologue and then died. I will give a full report when I see the middle.

I have seen the rest. I appreciated the scene where one of the dads can't jump in the water right away because he has to protect his phone.

Shyamalan always explains his movies within the text itself, but it would have been so much better to leave the ending up to interpretation. It played with that doubt for so long that explaining it at the end takes away all intrigue.
