Cheating itself isn’t abuse I don’t really care what others in this thread may or may not have said but using terms like “victims” with regards to cheating is a bridge too far for me and waters down what abuse actually is and does to people

Furthermore it’s possible to be an asshole and hurt people without couching everything in therapy speak. Part of the human experience is hurting and being hurt. Learn from it and move on. Don’t make a public display out of being an asshole. Just shut up and do better. Shits ridiculous

This has been going around DIY Twitter most of the weekend, & is another example of what awakebutstillinbed were talking about, that none of this needs to be made public and really isn't helping with accountability at all

If we’re worried that accountability has gone too far, the larger culture and world has good news.

I was honestly really surprised no one had brought it up in here by yesterday, I did not want to have to be the one to post it in here but I think it's important we discuss this situation, how we got here, & how we move forward. Cause... this helps absolutely no one. And unfortunately, IMO, I can't help but feel like people will avoid reading these statements if last time they read one it was a 6 minute read about someone cumming too fast

Honestly? I think there's some sort of divide in "how do we hold people accountable for bad things," and "how do we talk about these things without giving TMI or just not knowing what a full definition of accountability is."

It's the gen z folks (and maybe some zillennials, idk) who are more on the TMI train, because they think it's covering their tracks for the future, because they've seen how cancel culture (and the #MeToo movement) has played out in the music scene and beyond over the last few years.

Sexual assault=bad. Abuse in any sort of form (emotional/physical)=bad. The "gray area" of what a definitive yes or no is has been something discussed for a while too. Cheating? Happens, but doesn't necessarily make someone a bad person, unless it's part of a repeated pattern and with a history of abuse.

Real talk though, if we were cancelling people just for being bad at sex, well, we'd all pretty much be cancelled at some point in our lives ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
