Episode 3 already feels iconic. I can’t get over how huge and important this show feels, only 4 episodes into its run.

I loved that episode. I just like seeing Joel and Ellie talking shit.

With only 5 episodes left (and if they really are short) I’m having a hard time seeing how they fit the whole first game in. I feel like winter alone should be 3 episodes

Just based on trailer footage and episode titles (through episode 6) my guesstimation of the layout of the rest of this season will be... (GAME AND POTENTIAL SHOW SPOILERS) Episode 5: Entire Henry and Sam story, Episode 6: all of the Tommy/Jackson stuff, Episode 7/8: Joel's injury/Winter/David story from the game, Episode 9: Salt Lake City

I’m glad they opted to not got 1-for-1 all over the place but times they have done it have been great lol. This is a good showcase for how well Bella is nailing Ellie too, and apparently they were told not watch/play any of the game before filming.

Also glad they chose to place this scene later instead of the first scene after they leave Bill and Frank’s like it was after the game.

I love Melanie Lynsky but she was really bad this episode. Like, shockingly so

I want to watch it again to see her scenes one more time. In the show podcast, Neil and Craig said her character was supposed to be someone who was not necessarily comfortable leading a group like she is but she is trying to learn how to as she goes.

I’m guessing some of her speeches/dialogue sounds forced because they are supposed to be, but I think if they had made it more clear that was the case it would have come across a little better.

Melanie was good. I don’t understand the complaints.

  14. Her character definitely seemed like someone who is conflicted. I'm curious, assuming they get into it next ep, what her backstory is.

Yeah I got the sense that she was kinda reluctantly put into this position of power and is doing it to varying degrees of success. Wasn't too bothered by it

Because there's absolutely no power or leadership in her voice when she says 'lets dedicate all our resources to go find and kill the traitors'. She sounded so unsure, and it was unbelievable that everyone would listen to her. I did listen to the podcast though, and I think the reason will be explained, but if it was supposed to be an inspiring speech to 'rally the troops', it was terrible. I think she's a reluctant leader who's listened to for reasons other than her charisma but without the context of the podcast, it came across as just weak acting.

Yeah I get that she’s meant to be kind of meek, but the line deliveries were bad. It seemed like a non actor

I didn't know Melanie was a well regarded actress tbh, I've only ever seen her on Two and a Half Men

Lynsky isn’t there to play the cold-blooded matriarch of a villain gang but, given almost every single other depiction of an apocalypse, zombie or otherwise, I can see how people are trained to expect that role to be the cold-blooded matriarch of a villain gang. They give exposition dump clues in the interrogation and in the main henchman’s reaction to her choice to ignore the tell-tale concrete sinkhole that she isn’t a great leader/she’s winging it as best as she can and she is potentially making some huge horrible decisions for herself and her people. I thought the performance makes sense and was good enough considering the context her character is given from the story/creators.

to me it didn’t though, it felt like she’s in over her head. I haven’t played the games at all but that felt very clear to me.

The sense I got is that her group is faking it til they make it too and not yet the grizzled villains who would refuse to be led by an amateur.

I get that, but her speech literally mobilizes the forces as if she is a voice of power, yet the delivery shouldnt inspire anyone. It just didnt come off feeling right (yet). Its an odd choice to assume your audiences will suspect theres more at play, than just bad acting. Its very much on the line where it could go either way. Until i heard the podcast i was very much on the weak performace side of things.

When I saw that bridge I was like oh hell yeah they are doing Pittsburgh. But I get it, Pittsburgh has sink holes swallowing buses and bridges collapsing on normal days, the city probably wouldn’t exist post apocalypse
