I generally like this version of the album. My key takeaway is that they went to the studio to record what were generally their live performances, absent the guest vocals.

Melting Point of Wax is the real standout to me after one listen.

  4. I've never been a fan of the original so this is a really interesting listen so far. I've known these songs for so long but hearing them with the production approach they've had in their post-hiatus work and with the bluesier/raspier tone Dustin's voice has acquired since finally makes them *click*.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

Paper Tigers definitely got the biggest boost here for me, shot wayyy up my list of favourite Thrice songs

  18. Oh hearing the title track without Dustin's more youthful vocals and that intrinsically early 00s guitar tone feels off. The palm mutes don't hit the same here. I'd say it's the sole case where I immediately prefer the original.

Copped the galaxy for cheap with the discount code I got for subscribing to the mailing list. Thanks Thrice.

Overall, I dig it. I'm not sure what I expected from a rerecording of 20 year old tracks, but it's definitely a cool release. Some choices I like - like the production choices in that it's very raw, crunchy, and bass driven and feels like it's done live. Some choices I don't - like the lack of strings in The Melting Point of Wax. Overall, I dig it and it's a great look back while still maintaining who they've evolved into over the last 20 years.

I kinda fell off the Thrice train after Major/Minor. Those newer albums aren't bad, just not my vibe. But I threw this on this morning and I'm blown away. They really did a fantastic job on this.

Nice of them to spend time and money on something cool like this and still charge a reasonable price for vinyl. Pretty rare these days.
