What's funny about this discourse is it just shows how dumb people were when they originally played the game. It's very clear that Frank was Bill's partner (BILL EVEN SAYS SO!). I think at this point peoples brains are just rotted to oblivion about this stuff that literally has nothing to do with them, but they make it their entire identity to fight against it.

And the unlikely that they meet part, woo boy, I guess the zombies are more believable?

With the timeline shift and us getting more room to explore this universe I kind of hope they explore how the outbreak effected Iraq since it happened 6 months into the invasion. Like are there still American soldiers who survived that are just stranded there in perpetual combat for 20 years?

With the zombies, right? Although I wouldn't put it past our government to continue to fight a war overseas while in the throes of a zombie plague.

If this show wants to really give this a "stuck in 2003 forever" feeling there should be support our troops stickers everywhere.

My question regarding FEDRA... Spoiler tagging just incase. I was under the impression that FEDRA was a collection of all remaining US military and police personnel that was established some time after the outbreak, but in this week's episode, FEDRA was already fully established with patches and everything in 2003. Am I making this up, or does the game differ from the series in this aspect?

FEDRA formed in response to the outbreak, not some time after.

From what I remember FEDRA is this universe's equivalent to FEMA. After the outbreak they took over and absorbed the remnants of the military and the CDC. FEDRA is essentially a portrayal of the "FEMA Camps" conspiracy theory.

Federal Disaster and Response Agency makes me think they're just this universe's equivalent of FEMA and therefor have existed for awhile pre outbreak.

@Halitosis Jones beat me to it.

Just watched the first two episodes. This is so good. And as someone who loved the games, I'm so happy with how this has turned out.

The scene at the end of the second episode with the kiss was genuinely haunting.

  14. Incredible episode.

Not sure if it was already mentioned in the thread, but my wife pointed out that Joel's theory about the cordyceps initially spreading through flour or grain lines up with some details of the first episode — Joel mentioning Atkins, forgetting the cake, the neighbor eating biscuits and Sarah declining them, and I think there was something about Joel not having cereal at home.

I mean episode two opens with them investigating one of the first bite marks that happened to employees at a flour and grain factory, so that and episode one kind of confirmed it.

Lindelof and Mazin are friends that both deeply admire each others’ work. Mazin was doing the HBO podcast for Watchmen and you can hear how excited he was about what Lindelof was doing with a tv adaptation of a beloved work.

you can see the leftovers/watchmen/ and even lost rub off on this show

I know most of you are aware of it, but the podcast does a really great deep dive into this episode and the decision making, casting, plotting etc. It adds even further kudos to how well it all came together. I am 99% sure, there are no spoilers for non-game players (other than that what differed in the episode compared to the game, but nothing further ahead of this plot point).

I like that the episode is pretty much standalone. My sister was really interested in it because she loves Nick Offerman, but I know the show is too bleak for her taste. So I just gave her some background on how they tee up Joel and Ellie and she can enjoy Frank and Bill cold.

Small thing but I appreciated this as well when I saw it in the episode. Periods are still going to happen in an apocalypse and people who have them shouldn’t be ashamed about it.
