I haven't watched episode 3 yet, and the show has been absolutely phenomenal so far - that insert shot is just pretty funny. Especially living ≈ 25 miles west of Boston.

I'd imagine they are laying ground work for (minor spoiler for future seasons) her eventual turn toward violence for revenge in TLOU2. They already started this a bit when she looked kind of excited when Joel was beating up the guard to protect her

 

Obviously a great episode, bummer we don’t get any Bill and Ellie interactions though

 

I don't live in Boston, and I haven't played the video game, but are we SURE DAT DA ZOMBIES HAVEN'T BEEN PUSHING MOUNTAINS ACROSS DA UNITED STATES?????

honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think that the way they handled Bill’s section in the game would quite simply not have translated all that well to this format. this was a welcome departure for me, and it gave me way more reason to care for Bill as a character than the game ever did and I think that makes for way better television, and getting to see Frank as a full-fledged character felt like a blessing to me— and to see their relationship play out and bloom and eventually end in such a loving and fulfilled way felt a lot nicer to see represented in the year 2023 than the bitter end we got in the game would have. still love the game and how that section plays out in it but I like that we have two distinctly different takes on it now and they both work great for the mediums that they occupy.

 

One thing I find most fishy is them only encountering raiders once, haha

 

We saw key moments from their lives after infection. Not every raid was going to be shown.

 

also considering how the first one went idk that we needed a bunch of scenes of that

 

Maybe I’m making this up but I think they said before the show aired that violence was going to be kept to a “minimum” essentially. And showcase it when it matters or to drive the story.

Joel telling Bill that eventually raiders will come and then going straight into that seemed effective. I don’t think we needed a dozen instances of people wandering to the compound.

 

The people bothered by people making fun of the 10 miles west of Boston thing are the ones who need to lighten up

 

oh theres a big difference between poking fun at it and actually being vocally mad about it lol, unfortunately i've seen way more of the latter in virtually every space other than this thread.

 

I’ve only seen goofs, but I hope people actually upset about it can learn to relax

 

im always down to goof, do car pranks, etc.

 

it's nothing worth being upset about or dwelling on. it's just such an unforced error. It's just silly. At the same time it's so blatant that I have to imagine it was brought up, to which the director almost definitely said "shut up, nerd"
