So in the companion podcast for this episode, Druckmann and Mazin confirm that the final shot of the open window was indeed an homage to the opening menu of the game (relatively obvious, but cool to get confirmation). They also go further to say that their original plan was to open every episode with a shot of a window that would appear somewhere in that episode, and change the text of the "Skip Intro" button to "Play Episode", as a further homage. Thought that was kind of a fun tidbit.

Absolutely amazing episode. A little bummed about no Ellie/Bill shenanigans, but am okay with sacrificing that for what we ended up with.

 

Where uh, where do they think Boston is located exactly

 

What an episode. Beautiful, a bit of fun at times, and world building while almost being a bottle episode. If there's any gripes, I wish there was more exploration into Bill and Frank's understanding of their mortality in a broken world amongst what is the tail end of humanity's downfall, but that's it. Fantastic all round.

The actor who played Frank is Murray Bartlett, who also played the hotel manager in season 1 of The White Lotus, and he's brilliant.

 

This show just went from “damn this is a good adaptation” to “shit is this my favorite show now.” Gave me that feeling I last felt watching the last two episodes of the Leftovers.

The girl from Raising Hope being responsible for this show is a lot to handle

 

She also voices a central character in the second game

 

Man I forgotten basically all points of TLOU game about bill. Forgot Frank even existed. But yes, special episode.

I wonder if they will include an upside down shooting infected moment in the show now that they didn't do it here? Probably very hard to shoot, but I hope they pull it off.

 

Cannot wait to watch this again this evening.

 

Gee I feel bad for all the homophobes who tuned in expecting to watch a zombie apocalypse and got this perfect love story instead. Beautiful episode.

 

saw a few comments that were like "terrible episode, came here for zombies and action, there's barely any Ellie and Joel" and the entire reason the game was/is so good is that it's ultimately barely even about zombies. and the whole point of making an adaptation is being able to shine a light on other characters/storylines! (I know I'm preaching to the choir here, just such a silly complaint)

 

Also if you needed any proof this wasn't HBO Walking Dead... this episode is it

I was looking forward to Bill and Ellie giving each other shit but what we got was so much better

 

What makes the "10 miles West of Boston" even more frustrating is that not 10 minutes later, they show an establishing shot of Lincoln (Bill's town), with the Boston skyline on the horizon and there is very clearly only suburbs between the two. Where was the script supervisor on this one?

 

Also where is the Dunkin donuts, you know they'd survive the apocalypse

 

We have gotten TV this good in the past decade or so but rarely in shows with this huge of mainstream appeal.

 

man how do you do this episode and then just go back to normal next week, I'm gonna be comparing everything to this now lol
