i don't think Yeezus sounds like any BI record until this one. I think this record pulls quite a bit of influence from Yeezus. And good thing, it sounds excellent. "Deathbreast" in particular.

I was able to listen to this last night and I was pretty exhausted, and there is so much to take in here, but I can tell that this is something very special. My immediate reaction upon finishing it was that I wanted to listen again, and it pains me that I can't until late tonight. Props to Justin for not getting complacent and pushing his sound to a completely new landscape. This feels like a gamechanger.

Honestly it's such a well packaged LP, and the art is so cool, that it's worth owning even if you don't have a turntable.

I always find it weird when people compare anything with vocoder effects to Imogen Heap, haha. She's far from the only person to use something like that and she only really did it on one song..

That song just generally kind of reminds me of "Hide and Seek."

That's the only place she came to mind for me, though. The rest either reminds me of Kanye or reminds me of Bon Iver, ha.

Hahah yeah thats what I meant when I said that. Creeks reminded me so much of Hide and Seek.

Damn I've said it like 10 times in this thread already, but I friggin love this album. I can't stop replaying it.

The part where the Messina stops and he says "and I see you" is "that moment" for me

As much as I love Creeks I wonder what it would sound like without the heavy auto tune.

I agree with ChiliTacos. Love the idea of "Deus Ex Messina" shown throughout the artwork and videos.

Chris Messina is JV's engineer. The two created a instrument called the "Messina." Much like how a vocoder/autotune can fluctuate pitches, this does this to a number of different levels of harmonies (Bass, Tenor, Alto) using a midi keyboard and can also fluctuate the harmonies of other instruments too like the saxophone, heard on ____45_____. I believe "Deus Ex Messina" means to signify internal resolution with the instrument they created. Deus Ex Machina means to resolve a plot/dilemma via divine intervention, but in JV22's case, it's an instrument that resolves his internal dilemma. The song wouldn't feel complete without it.

I really like this record, we just picked it up at the local record store after listening to it all day yesterday. I've seen a ton of praise for Creeks though and I don't get it. It's a fine song but every time I hear it I think "Imogen Heap took this concept and did it better." Definitely don't think it's the standout.

lol I mean you can hear similarities but Imogen Heap comes nowhere close to having a monopoly on vocal distortion

Well I didn't say she does. That's just the first song that comes to mind when I hear that song. As I said, the song is fine but it makes me want to go listen to Hide and Seek.

It's totally not for everyone. The general consensus I hear is for Strafford and 8 circle

Eh, there's a million other artists/songs that have come out since then that also come to mind. Kanye is probably the biggest one to jump out
