Why are the Briscoes banned from AEW TV? Is it a Turner thing?

 

WBD apparently isn't particularly fond of the things they've said in the past

 

Jay made an extremely homophobic comment on Twitter in 2013 that he quickly apologized for. The Briscoes are very religious and used to have some incredibly stupid beliefs. That’s why they are banned from Turner networks. Multiple LGBT people in the wrestling community (Effy, Dark Shiek, Ian Riccaboni) that they’ve worked with have came to his defense and acknowledged that he has owned up to being incredibly stupid in the past. By all accounts I’ve read he had changed and done everything he can to atone for past mistakes.

 

And it had to be on other peoples accounts because he didn't openly advertise how much he has changed like most assholes would in this day and age of social media. He genuinely educated himself and challenged his own thoughts and completely evolved on the topic because he wanted to.

 

2013 was long enough ago that I believe someone can change. At the same time I get having a zero tolerance policy if this is what he is most known for. As a non-straight person I might see him on TV and go "maybe this isn't for me" if I didn't have all the other info.

 

Yeah. The thing is it’s not what he is most known for and I’d guess a good amount of AEW fans don’t even know what he said. I’m surprised anyone at Turner even knows about it.

I think a big part of the backlash against Turner is that the show was followed by the Slap Fight League, which heavily featured Dana White who less than three weeks ago slapped his wife in public and hasn’t had any repercussions for his actions. It’s an example of how “cancel culture” is not a thing if you have enough power and money.

This is probably true considering I’m an online wrestling fan and didn’t even know about it.
