Palette Knife - New Game+ (January 20, 2023)

New Game+ the sophomore LP from Columbus, Ohio’s Palette Knife encompasses a vast array of rock/emo tunes that are reminiscent of scene stalwarts Into It. Over It, Origami Angel or a more intricately guitar based Modern Baseball. The theme of New Game+ interweaves classic 16-bit tropes of “Death Screen” and “Pause Screen” seamlessly into the LP sequencing.

The slow-building, fast climaxing ode to lockdown single “Jelly Boi” is spacious as it crescendos into a fast-paced guitar attack outro. On "Damn Son, Dim Sum", the band gets right to it for two and a half minutes and churns out a riff-y pop-punk classic. Closer “…And That’s A Rock Fact.”, does what closers do and puts an empathic foot down on an entire piece of work that encapsulates what a rising rock/emo band is capable of.

smashes Ponderosa Snake House and that was great to begin with - I really hope PK do some big things this year.

 

Yeah PSH was awesome, super stoked on this! They should be way bigger than they are, I would love to see this be their breakout year.

Wow I am STOKED for this. I knew they had another album on the way but I completely forgot it was coming this early in the year.

These singles are all amazing. I’m so happy this is coming this week.

 

If this is better than Ponderosa we’ve got a real contender on our hands, I’ve been really trying my best to not outplay the singles (except Jelly Boi that was one of my most played in 2021)
