Going back to the first two albums for the first time in awhile. This guy just has a gift for really delivering big emotional wallops with his songwriting. “Changes” is hitting today.

 

Changes is one of my favorites of his.

He’s 2/2 in making me a weeping mess whenever I see Brave live.

 

really liking this song. will correct my lifelong error of not seeing him live when he comes around this time.

 

Is there an easy choice for a weak track? e.g. Jubilee or Pressure off s&d

 

i listened to Dying Star the other day for the first time in a while and that album is a hit wire to wire.

No way in hell MK is a low point for this. I’ve been hyping that up for years now.

 

lol with that third chorus and outro? you're crazy.

 

This song is incredible. That climax is one of the most cathartic things I've heard in a while.

Do the religious references take a backseat this time around?

 

I don't feel like he did that too much on prior records, so hard to make a call on what "taking a backseat" means.

 

love the song. i'm very salty about those of you who get to enjoy this record during these winter months.

 

Good on Rusty for getting this announced yesterday ahead of the boygenius/FOB/Wednesday trifecta of announcements today that probably cover his entire fan base between the three of them haha

 

Oh and The National put a new song out too

 

based on the producer choice it doesn’t seem like there’s any solo acoustic tracks ala Brave?

 

"Mending Song" is beautiful and based on a single instrument voice note (he talks about it in the bio), but there's some slight atmospheric production on it that works well.

One of the things I like most about this album after ~5 listens is how many new sounds he's seamlessly adding to his repertoire. Felt like that was my biggest criticism of Shape & Destroy.

 

Very interesting. I agree, I think my favorites off of Shape and Destroy where the songs where he pushed things a bit, Under The Sun, Radio Cloud, etc

 

If Michael Keaton is the worst song on this thing, then oh boy. Because that song rules.

 

I miss the twang but still a pretty nice song
