I don’t like all of this teasing when it’s too complicated for anyone to figure out haha

If you tease an album it better be good. Heat Thing…no good.

I mean, every band thinks their upcoming album is good in the moment. But it won’t work for everyone. So should they never tease anything?

I’m glad K doesn’t work in any sort of marketing because man every one of his ideas is always awful

“When can we start teasing our new record?”

“hmm I don’t think this one is good enough for teasing, sorry”

If you’re gonna hype a record with a good tease you wanna back it up with a good record you feel confident in.

Hence the reference to Heat Thing. Unless you enjoy marketing with no payoff. No mention of time frame by me at all.

  9. I only like albums that are teased if they suck.

Would certainly be a bold strategy to promote your new album with an attitude of "meh it's alright I guess"

Ok so if a band knowingly is releasing a terrible album, they shouldn't tease it. Got it

  12. Does Green Day’s billboard count as a tease? If so, then I guess you love FOAM?? Good boy!

I think the only way to settle this is for FOB to send me the album early so I can let them know if it's worth teasing or not

  14. And it’s incredibly rare when a band spends their time and money to create an album they believe in at all.

  15. Teased the worst album in the worst way. Champs.

I referred to a campaign that was marketing brilliance (viral) and the final product was underwhelming with Sone’s “Heat Thing”. Honestly no one ever talks about that record but on the old site that’s maybe the best campaign any band had.

Suggesting that teasing early comes with high expectations on the product is realistic. They are setting the expectation. And every band can think their new record is their best record, but spending 4 months hyping something you probably feel exceptionally good about it. Otherwise a band may follow a more traditional rollout. Announce a new record with a song. Doesn’t mean those bands aren’t hyped to and put work into why they did. They just gave you a sample of what to expect early and just didn’t go the “tease” route.

Rick posted this in the Thrice thread, but it serves as a reminder that even if bands love their songs recording, production and timelines can be rushed.

"To be quite candid, it’s sort of the “almost” record for us. We learned a lot of lessons from writing and recording that record. We had a lot of great and inspired ideas but blocked ourselves in as far as writing/recording time since we started booking tours before we even finished writing. I think that led to some premature ideas that had great potential but never quite blossomed the way it should have. I truly believe that we had something a lot more progressive and interesting cooking. Since then, we’d kept everything completely open-ended while we were writing/recording, being sure to allow whatever time we needed to get everything right.

I know we’ve expressed this a number of times in the past, but in retrospect, the record sounds very stale to me. We recorded the drums in the big room at the now defunct Bearsville Studios, and that room was huge, with a beautifully lively sound to it. Our rough mixes sounded amazing. We made the mistake of going with a big name mixer who more or less ran it through his cookie cutter formula which sucked out all the character we saw in it. It worked OK for some of the songs, but there’s definitely a good handful of songs that got lost in translation. Again, lesson learned.

That’s not to say I hate the record at all. I appreciate it for its place in our band’s timeline and actually don’t have any regrets. I think it was a needed catalyst for a big turning point for us." Teppei Teranishi

So that’s not to say a band doesn’t believe in it all all, but there are plenty of examples of bands not being hyped on their releases. Face to Face “Big Choice” album for example. Listen to the guys talk about that record and experience and they didn’t love it and have all sorts of issues with the record. But they love the songs. They just needed a release to maintain momentum and had label interference.

If you’re teasing a record likely out in four months or whatever people figure, you gotta assume they are confident. Even if it’s a marketing tool. Once a single drops the marketing changes because it’s no longer just teasing something.

Do you think bands consistently tease what they believe to be bad albums? This thought process is bizarre.

Summary, Teppei wasn’t happy with the final product of The Artist In The Ambulance for various recording and production reasons. Not every band is thrilled with every album release. That’s why Thrice is rumoured to have r-recorded the record.

Seems like Joe wasn’t happy with last FOB record direction. Not every release it loved by the band.
