People getting mad that Yellowstone is suddenly gay, how is that any different from me avoiding Rick and Morty because of its fans, or me seeking out things like She-Ra and Owl House because they're gay? Political is personal, people will inevitably have their political reasons for what they do and don't check out, whether it's the fans of the show or the show itself

I compare it to people who said they refused to watch Top Gun Maverick because it's propaganda. Its like yeah no shit, but it's also fun very well made and watchable propaganda.

Yellowstone does take a pretty outwardly progressive stance on Native American issues, Sheridan has done more to highlight the epidemic of violence that Native American women on reservations go through in pop culture than most. Besides that yeah Yellowstone's politics border on libertarian and centrist. There was an episode I just watched where the governor is running for Senate, and she was like "I'm great at negotiating, nobody in DC compromises anymore" lol.

It definitely is reactionary, but not as reactionary and far right as it's fan base might suggest. Again a lot of its dumber parts are actually centrist. Its politics are no more reactionary and stupid than most broadcast network dramas.

Sheridan’s got kind all over the place politics, at least judging from his movies. He’ll be very sympathetic to Native Americans and then “Sicario 2” has illegal aliens crossing the border and suicide bombing a grocery store. But yeah, I don’t know. Unless he’s advocating for some truly horrendous shit (like “Sicario 2”), it doesn’t bother me that much, but I understand why others would be like “No.”

 

Top Gun Maverick was a fun movie.
