We reach for the longest shadow

Funeral Plant musically sounds like the sequel to Play "God Only Knows" At My Funeral, especially with the little guitar solo breakdown each song does.

EDIT: Not God Only Knows, I meant The Only Thing that Haunts this House is Me

Obviously discussion has been centered on the new one but I listened to Gospel today and it is a perfect album.

I finally got a few car rides to spend some time with this.

    Some random thoughts:
-Big fan of the opener. I love when a band just does whatever they want, even it’s different from everything else.
-I just want more breakbeats in every type of music. They sound so good here. Especially the weird interplay between the fast drums and slower instrumental feel in Machines.
-Album feels like a mix of old and new. Some of their most experimental stuff alongside some Gospel sounding tracks (Funeral Plant, Veins(to an extent)). I might like the more experimental stuff the most.
    - I really love how Machines is like both the quietest and also most insane this band has ever sounded.
    - The chorus on “Blood in the Milk” is such a great melody.
    - I need more time with the lyrics. It’s definitely an angry album, but it truly feels like an album that a writer needed to write. It’s also an album that without closure or a resolution. That doesn’t make me like it any less, just makes me relate to it differently.

I’m regards to the association with sexual assault/abuse stuff, I think dealing with associations is just really difficult. We don’t know the relationships. We don’t know what boundaries, hard conversations, and feelings that are a part of them. I think Nick’s response on here is a perfect example of how assumptions can present inaccurate portrayals of what’s really going on. With that being said, I think you are entirely entitled to choose not to listen/support this band if you do not feel comfortable doing so.

I dig this album quite a bit. Really love the experimentation and broadening of their sound palette. I do think Oh, Common Life is my favorite album of theirs, but this will undoubtedly grow on me.

The closer is the outstanding song on all listens. The rest is growing on me and the opener is really out of place.

I love this album, and it might be their best overall, but I'm listening through Oh, Common Life, and I truly think Woods, One More Creature Dizzy With Love, and Run Brother Run are perfect Fireworks songs, and are in a tier of their own.

This is my favorite Fireworks album. We are lucky to get such a good album so early in the year.

I love everything about this but goodnight tomb. I enjoy the song, but I dont think it fits the rest of the albums style.

I really don't see how they're going to be able to pull that one off live but excited to potentially see them do it

If they don't open their next show with it I will riot. Dave and Chris are trading off screams back and forth, so it shouldn't be too wearing on either one. Dave doesn't have the strongest voice live though, so I hope he can open with it then keep up his voice for the whole show

After a few days with this, I can safely say Blood in the Milk and ...So Easy are two of the best songs they've released. It was a long wait for this release, but it was well worth the wait.

    It's all hell.

I think this band has got progressively better with every album.

I imagine this is going to obliterate my spotify wrapped in 12 months.

I don’t think a record has so accurately captured what it feels like to grow up in the church and walk away from the foolishness as an adult. So many heavy hitting lines.

So were they Christian/Religious before? This is my first time hearing anything from them. Although I knew of them.

This album is great, every song has grown on me except for maybe Jerking off the Sky, but I don’t mind it or anything like that.

I highly recommend Valleyheart’s Everyone I’ve Ever Loved. It’s probably my favorite album that centers around the deconstruction of faith. I have to imagine if you like this Fireworks album AND the topics covered in the lyrics you’ll like that one a lot too.
