Always Sunny too, it's at least impressive how long it's been on

I guess It's Always Sunny is a sitcom but it strangely never struck me as that. Same with Curb, The Office, and similar workplace comedies. I think it's the lack of an audience laugh-track.

  5. Laugh track is the worst part of sit coms

  6. Agreed. Don’t try and make ME feel bad for NOT laughing at your bad jokes, sitcom!!!

I like a good live audience though. Especially on Seinfeld. They really play it up sometimes.

For sure. Wish there was a way to turn off the laugh track if you're watching on streaming.

Some shows need it to survive. I remember watching a Youtube video of Big Bang Theory without the laugh track and it's actually uncomfortable. Not sure how anyone can find that show funny.

Still haven’t watched 30 rock, I’m not a huge Tina Fey fan.

Sports Night is a great case study in laugh tracks (and also a great sitcom). Season 1 has a laugh track, which I think gets used less throughout the season, then season 2 doesn't have it.

The drop off from Queens and Raymond to like Rules Of Engagement, Mom, Big Bang, 2 Broke Girls, etc was gigantic lol

  13. The characters on Seinfeld, It's Always Sunny, and Veep seem like such assholes, I mean, that's the point, right? but it's so unappealing to me, personally.

  15. I definitely feel that way about Seinfeld and It's Always Sunny. Veep totally works for me though, in the same way that Arrested Development does. They're abhorrent in many ways, but there's enough heart there (not to mention I actually think it's funny) that I love it.

I don't need the characters of the media I consume to be moral/"good" people to be entertained by their hijinx. The whole fun of It's Always Sunny is that they're all insane. Also, the characters on Seinfeld seem relatively normal / relatable so far to me--neurotic, sure, but that's just who they are.

  18. They don't have to be! I've definitely found the episodes I've seen of Seinfeld funny. I just like it more when they're likable and/or poc/queer.

That’s fair. People like what they like!

Also, I know all the main cast is IRL, but does anyone know if the characters on Seinfeld are all Jewish? I always thought it was one of the bigger examples of Jewish representation in tv, but I’m not 100% sure yet being so early in the show.

If “Mythic Quest” is considered a sitcom, it’s also a very good sitcom.

George being Italian despite Jason, Estelle, and Jerry all being Jewish is one of the understated jokes of the show
