Classic one rap album allowed per year lol

Good list otherwise though, I still need to check out that Cold Years album, those are some big fucking comparisons

Thought cold years might be higher up overall. Good spot though. Was my AOTY when I first heard it earlier this year and still is now. And not that it should necessarily be on the list, but shout out to Simple Plan's "Harder Than It Looks." Really think they did a nice job with it and I've listened to it constantly this year.

I really liked Alvvays, they were right up there with Coheed for my most listened to this year. I don't get the love for Bartees or Dashboard this year, both of those fell flat for me.

Great list and excited to dig into what I missed! But where is Preacher’s Daughter ???

  6. Damn, I have no idea how I missed contributing blurbs to this but great work to everyone who did. Lots on here I still need to check out.

Wish we would have seen Alex G or some Griselda on here, but this is a really cool and solid list, even if I'm not a TWY fan anymore.

  7. Wild take, the Alvvays album absolutely deserves its acclaim and even though I enjoy Kendrick, I don't think it's a top three hip-hop record this year.

Great list. Lots of stuff for me to go check out. I can't help but feel bummed there's no love for The Dear Hunter's Antimai here, as this is where I thought it'd get some attention. I didn't get it at first playthrough but I ended up listening to that album like 40+ times last year.

Overall it was an incredible year though.

    Top 10:
Big Thief - Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You
The Smile - A Light for Attracting Attention
    Oso Oso - sore thumb
Bartees Strange - Farm to Table
    The Dear Hunter - Antimai
    Julia Jacklin - Pre Pleasure
Kevin Devine -Nothing's Real, So Nothing's Wrong
    Christian Lee Hutson - Quitters
    Soccer Mommy - Sometimes, Forever
    Bright Eyes - Companion EPs

Loved other albums by: Toro y Moi, Vundabar, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Joywave, Beach House, All Get Out, Pedro The Lion, Neva Dinova, Disq, Death Cab for Cutie, Plains, Pianos Become the Teeth, Spoon, Wet Leg, Sparta, Kendrick Lamar, The Early November, The Beths, Dan Andriano, Ethel Cain, The Wonder Years, Faye Webster, The Sounds of Animals Fighting, We Were Promised Jetpacks

I'm always here to deliver wild takes :D

I'm not a clear writer. I like Alvvays, but Pitchfork had it as their #3 AOTY. I feel like it's makeup for missing out on their previous, better releases IMO.

And then I think there's some Kendrick fatigue for EOTY lists, cuz he's topped so many in previous years, but his new album still crushes.

  11. For anyone who doesn't frequent the hip-hop thread and is looking for recs that weren't on this list, this was my favorite song of the year:

Whole album is really, really good, as are Benny's and Westside Gunn's. But I'm a big Griselda fan.

The Mike album that dropped last month is very, very good too. Would probably crack my top 15 with enough time

Even though they only released a single for their new LP in 2022 (minus the ep already)......Im going to have to say that Matt Ponds new venture will be my album of the year for 2023.......

Let's get these people moving faster!

As per usual, loved the diversity of this list, and like my own favourites this year included some artists that I've been listening to for nearly 2 decades.

My top 2 albums this year I haven't seen mentioned in the thread, but were from No Devotion and A Wilhelm Scream - both of which I'd been anxious to hear new music from for a long time, and then played more than anything else.

The Joyce Manor write up keeps calling the album 40 oz. to Freedom.

Excited to see some favorites from the year on the list. Some others I need to check out as well.
