Wow I thought I was the only one who found Dune boring, everyone I talked to seemed to love it

My unpopular entertainment opinion is that “slow” isn’t a valid critique. Fine to not like slow cinema, but it’s often intentional and I find a lot of slow cinema extremely affecting. Reichardt, Costa, etc

 

It wasn’t even very slow to me, every scene mattered and there was like knives and fighting and big worms. Buts it’s also cool if people didn’t like it. It’s very sci fi and carries a certain mood I could see people finding boring. Worked for me though

 

Yep. The Turin Horse is purposely slow and it’s brilliant and pretty much perfect.

 

Ugh I love Stephanie Beatriz and Diane Guerrero so much, seeing Rosa from B99 and Jane from Doom Patrol together singing "What Else Can I Do?" is such a treat

 

yep there are plenty of “slow” movies that i absolutely love and am engaged the entire time and others that I just can’t connect with it but that’s not because they’re “slow”

 

I keep not watching Dune because it's so long

Finally watching the 7th season of Boy Meets World. Woooof. 6 episodes in and it’s bad. Reminds me of the last season of The Office where they’re just scraping the barrel and coming up with all kinds of weird shit.

 

Put on how to lose a guy in 10 days because I haven't seen it in a while and it was on the Netflix banner and I forgot how much secondhand embarrassment type humor there is. Idk if I can make it through

Edit: lol at them both being mad at each other at the reveal when neither is better than the other and both blatantly lied? Nobody has the moral high ground here lol

 

I personally loved Dune but I would absolutely call it flawed. Splitting the story where they did is such an insanely weird choice - I could see it making sense in hindsight when both movies are out and you can just watch the whole thing as one long movie, but I don't think it works at all as a standalone film.

 

That poker night scene is so good

 

Everyone watch This Place Rules on HBO Max

 

Checking it out tomorrow, I'm pumped for it
