I'll probably do one in here for metal stuff even though I'm not sure if I've even listened to much more than 10 tbh

I resolve to get back on track and listen to way more metal next year. 2023 will be the year of TRVE.

Going back through some releases from this year that I missed (which is a lot) in alphabetical order.

Aeviterne - The Ailing Facade - big fan of this. Crazy death metal with members of Artificial Brain and Flourising, among others.

Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture - did not enjoy as much. Avant-garde black metal, vocals caught me off guard big time. I wouldn't say they don't fit - they're at least interesting, just not my thing. I'm sure they'd be wild live tho. Was never suer into the sax/horns part of the avant-garde thing.

 

Looks like first show of the new year is going to be Integrity and Spiritworld.

Not a bad way to kick off 2023.

Same, I can't get into that Ashenspire album because of the vocals/the way he sings

It’s wild how Vinnie makes a completely valid point on a Pantera reunion and everything he said in this ended up happening anyway after he died.

 

And his estate even authorized it too.

I get that it's a big deal to some people who feel some kind of way, but I just get exhausted by the discourse.

I mean, it's happening, everyone involved has given the green light, and it's just a live destination for the songs. Continuing to be mad about it just seems like a waste of time to me.

 

It’s goofy, it’s not that deep. If I was planning on seeing that Metallica tour I wouldn’t boycott it because Pantera was playing it, and it might be cool to hear those songs live, but doesn’t make it any less corny.

 

It just never sat right with me that Vinnie made it very clear how he felt about but now that’s he’s gone, this happened and everyone around it is like “Aw it’s cool, man…”/free pass about it. Especially since it just reeks of Phil trying to make a quick buck off people’s nostalgia with a band that wasn’t even his to begin with and the only reason he even did this was because Vinnie isn’t around to tell him no.

Like yeah, this is a thing now, people enjoy it and it’s gonna print money. That’s great, good for them. However, it was that comment Vinnie made in the clip about people being selfish that really sticks out here and that’s pretty much how I feel about it ultimately, it’s people selfishly ignoring his wishes about what was ultimately his and his brother’s band.

I dunno, I saw the clip and it just dragged up previous feelings I had about it, so this’ll be probably the last time I bring up because there’s nothing I can ultimately do about it other than not personally supporting it.

 

Phil's been doing the Pantera cover shtick to make money for years. Look at the sets he did with the Illegals that played Pantera songs. This is just the same thing with a different cast of characters that makes a bit more money because they are actually using the Pantera name.

 

THRASH METAL THVRSDAY YOU JABRONIS

I have a 5 day weekend so I'm coming in HOT. I go back to work next Wednesday which is only one sleep before the next THRASH METAL THVRSDAY. Seems good!

First up we have a strong contender for best thrash album for the year from Philly black thrashers Daeva. Their debut album came out on 20 Buck Spin in October and it's a ripper. FFO: Absu, Aura Noir

Next we have even more black thrash from Demiser, who released a debut last year on Metal Blade. Solid stuff FFO Sodom, Toxic Holocaust:

Lastly, how about some Costa Rican thrash? Höwler released their debut earlier this year, and they lean towards the heavy/thrash side. Love that album art.
