I want you to know that I’ve only had 2 of those cookies!

  2. This was about what I expected. Brilliant on a technical level, and pretty standard on the story and writing. As soon as it got to the reef clan, I was in awe at virtually every shot from that point forward. Just gorgeous stuff. Didn't care for the Spider character at all.

Saw it in 2D Dolby. The constant switching back and forth between HFR and regular framerate was a bit jarring and took me out of the immersion several times, unfortunately.

Damn, dude. That's refund material. Cold popcorn during a 3-hour film...

My theater didn’t even have 3D showings for Dolby cinema

If you can see this in 3D, it’s an absolute no brainer. The water shots were stunning and my mouth was agape many many times

Yeah HFR in 2D doesn't sound worth it

  9. Whatever happened to the unobtanium they were after in the first one? Seems like in this one humans were like earth is dying and we still really like Pandora so let's colonize that, but then they're also after the whales' enzymes for anti-agin while they're there, all while being out to get Jake Sully for revenge? Man they had a packed agenda.

Anyway the whale stuff was the only interesting thing here for me. Would've liked the whole thing to be around Jake's kids bonding with the whales and the humans being after the whales for anti-aging. It would've been enough to drive the emotion, action and VFX spectacle without the cheesy revenge storyline with blue Stephen Lang. Also could've shaved at least 45 min of runtime.

Speaking of the first week compared to Top Gun’s earlier, Top Gun’s Wednesday was higher than Avatar’s yesterday, but only by like $400k

I’m a sicko and have seen this twice along with Babylon in the same week. Both three hour masterpieces. Movies!

Yeah that’s a 63% drop. On course with the average marvel movie drop. Avatar 1 in 2009 also had a winter storm weekend but I don’t think the drop was that big.

I was thinking that and it may well be a factor but it is doing what other $100m+ openers have done.

Its second Friday gross was down 13.7%

The first one? So it picked up the rest on Sat and Sun? Second weekend in 2009 had a 3% drop or something ridiculous

Yeah pretty much, went up 10.8% on its second Saturday and dropped only 2% on its second Sunday. Dropped 1.8% for the entire weekend.
