what are your favorite SEA venues? I’ve been here about a year and a half and have done Showbox, Showbox SoDo, Neumos, Moore, Tractor Tavern, Marymoor, and WAMU (and a random cultural arts center in Ballard), and am trying to figure out if there’s any other must visit venues

 

Welcome to the PNW! Of the ones you listed, OG Showbox and Marymoor are my favorite clubs and outdoor venues respectively. If you've ever done cheap seats at the Moore, then you'll understand why I hate it. Most of the acts I follow seem to play at the Showbox SoDo these days, but Neptune over in the U District is always a fun time, as is Chop Suey - both kind of weathered but lots of fun interior design! The newly designed Crocodile on 1st Ave (R.I.P. 2nd Ave location) is cool too, Madame Lou's on the first floor looks cool but hard to get a good view. Climate Pledge Arena is very nice but much more confusing to navigate than when it was Key Arena, you might wanna show up early just so you can get to your seats on time. Triple Door is an interesting, low-key venue I've only ever been to once. Paramount Theater is our designated "classy venue" and it's good, worth seeing a show there if you can (they filmed the prom in 10 Things I Hate About You there!) Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery in Woodniville is cool for summer shows, not as cool as Marymoor tho. El Corazon is grimy, run down, and always oversold, but it's where I went to my first show and it's worth going once just for the punk cred. Of the places you didn't list, The Vera Project is the best! DIY, very LGBT friendly, very clean space that somehow affords rent right next to Climate Pledge, but always a good vibe and good views, usually small or local bands who play. Wish I could go there more often.

I live in Tacoma though, and honestly we've got great venues here that I hope get more traffic, it does look like it's slowly becoming a proper B-market. Real Art, Elk's Temple (Spanish Ballroom), been to a couple of Emo Nites at Alma and they're all awesome!

17 shows total for me this year and would've had more if I didn't skip a few here and there because I didn't wanna drive the 1.5-2hrs to Boston on a weeknight. Definitely need to spread things out a bit more next year. September and November were very busy for me.

You might not believe me to look at it, but this is the year that the sheer physical exhaustion of going to shows in your 30's finally caught up to me. So many dropped tickets this year...
