I'm finishing up The Hunger of the Gods today. Fantastic series. Can't wait to dive into his previous stuff.

So.... I recently finished the ACOTAR series (what's out anyway) and I actually enjoyed it. The smut wasn't at the forefront (albeit the flirting was) but the story was actually enjoyable and the characters pretty interesting!

I've got nothing against sexual scenes in books, for the record. Just have to be done right and have reason, for me.

Humorous update... just had to buy the Kindle copy of The Last of the Renshai because my paper copy got destroyed when my lunchbox leaked all over it in my backpack where I was carrying it because I was going to start it today.

I've read the first three. I liked them as I read them, but in hindsight they feel way too bloated. I also don't mind sex scenes in books, but the ones in these were... a bit much (and not in the fun way). The flowery language/wing stroking orgasms just... hahaha. You know?

That being said, The Throne of Glass series, once you get back the first two absolutely abysmal books, by her is much better/more engaging to me. It randomly introduces sex scenes (it had very much not been that for the first few books) later in the series and it definitely felt shoe-horned in, but the world that series is set in (especially Book 6) is great.

I've been hesitant to start her new series in part because my friend bought the above ten books and gave up on SJM as a writer after ACOTAR3, so I'd have to buy it instead of logging into her Audible account like the above books, but also because I heard they get a bit smuttier. That's not really what I go to fantasy books for.

I do get you. Definitely not what i'm into but since my partner is going to try Mistborn I had to come to a generous conclusion!

I've actually been told the newer series is more fantasy than anything else. More murder mystery and reads that way. I'm going to finish this series then move onto something else but may circle back. ToG doesn't seem to hold much standing though but i'm never a fan of longer series that just read bad.

I do get you about the wing-stroking though. I won't lie and say it's all enjoyable haha!

PS for those of you in the book exchange that haven't received your book yet, I assure you it's on the way. Might not make it time for Christmas but it's coming ok!!!

Ugh. Nothing more annoying than a character just randomly behaving stupidly to create tension/danger.

I’m nearing the end of Assassin’s Quest and ugh.

I picked up Dark Imperium (Warhammer 40K) today. The upcoming cinematic universe has me hyped and I know little of the lore. I read Eisenhorn and Gaunt’s Ghost are the best, but this one seemed cool at the store lol. I’m excited to dive in.

You'll have to let me know how it is! I have also been diving into the Warhammer universe and I'm only familiar with The Horus Heresy so far, just finished book 5 of that, and I know that's like really early in the timline. I have no idea where to go next, not that I'll run out of stuff to read in the HH since it's like 60 books, but if I wanted something different I'm not sure where to look.

Going to assume this is me, they recently made my apartment building a secured location (locked the entranceway) without giving us any other option to get packages so I have them sent to my parents place. I texted them and they said they got it, haha. I'll grab it tomorrow!

Yesss mission successful! I did a thread search for it and none of the results were from posts you made so I assumed you hadn't read it. Easier than going through the 1,000+ books on your Goodreads shelf!

I'm on the 3rd book and I'm enjoying it. It is very much a heist series which not everyone is into but it's highly entertaining. I love the worldbuilding, it feels like Italian Renaissance era in a lot of ways.

@Vivatoto you would probably like Ymir by Rich Larson. (Everyone else should check it out too.) I'm almost done, probably finishing it up tonight. It's like if a character from Beyond Redemption did a bunch of hard drugs, read Beowulf, and then tried to fight the Shrike. Great stuff.

I see the first book, Annex, is on sale for 99 cents so I just went ahead and grabbed it.

Oh sweet. I don't think they're connected but Annex looks great too, I'll grab that.

He's done a ton of short fiction, so that'll be fun to dive into.

Oh strange, on Amazon they say it's book 2 of The Violet Wars.
