Given that they just barely were able to fill 800-1k capacity venues on this tour, the smart move is probably doing a co-headliner with someone similar. Just wish it wasn't Dashboard Confessional.

i just had a bit of a moment, if you will, playing some songs by this band on guitar and really just losing myself and singing along to every word lol. im sure it sounded horrible but one thing my addiction took from me was any desire at all to play music and i didnt even have a guitar to play on for years at a time due to selling them all and only recently have i been able to but i havent really taken much time. but man something in me just hit me and i started jamming along to futures and before i knew it an hour had gone by and i ripped through a handful of tunes i still knew the general chord progressions too and could even recall some of the riffs (the pain solo definitely hurt, lol, i have no callouses rn and bending octave chords is tough). there really is no other band on earth i have such a defined history with, i learned these songs on this instrument literally 15-20 years ago when i was a kid with a guitar and discovered bleed american and later futures. idk i just really remembered why i wanted to play music in the first place and how much of it was rooted in this band. idk, i never did aim to be the flashiest player, but jimmy eat world showed me how to be effective within my limits and made me believe i can still be a great guitarist without being some virtuoso and could move people with my playing with my skill set.

That's so cool to hear and glad you had all that fun, reconnected with the guitar, it's a bliss! Well, the small guitar solo in Work was the first ever solo for me to learn, and A Praise Chorus was something that got me into wanting to play guitar or even perform, going some extra lenghts

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I sing along to that little solo in Work as much as I do any of the lyrics lmao, best part of the song

also realized that if you dont, dont is like three chords the entire time over and over and over and over again but somehow its so much more than that with how its arranged. they were really hitting a new stride in songwriting during that era that isnt often discussed since clarity is held in such high regard. for my money though, the leap in quality especially when it comes to tight songwriting from clarity to bleed american is significant, to say the least. plus you can hear a lot of the early ideas that defined futures throughout, especially on a song like "cautioners."

    Beautiful!

Just have fun man. No one gives a shit if you can shred a millions miles per hour or not :) Some of my favourite songs to play on guitar are Tom Petty songs which are typically three chords haha

It's just a personal preference, but when it comes to basically any artistic medium (be it painting, guitar, singing, etc.), I'll take great style over technical perfection any day of the week. I mean, yeah, it's amazing if someone can play any song flawlessly or paint photo-realistically, but that leaves me cold. I love Jim's playing, especially when he was younger and a bit looser. Watching older live performances of something like Bleed American, you never knew exactly how he was going to play that solo. It had a dangerous, unhinged quality to it.

Completely random, but after all these years, I just learned the correct lyrics to Always Be. I cringed every time at what I thought was the decidedly un-Jim like line:

I'm alone in this / I'm an ass I've always been / Right behind what's happening

As I'm sure everyone else in the world knew except for me, turns out it's:

I'm alone in this / I'm as I've always been / Right behind what's happening

The "behind" is what threw me. I thought the "ass" was just a cute coupling with "behind", so I always hated it.

My ultimate misheard lyric will forever be in Bob Dylan's I Don't Believe You. There is a line at around the 2:20 mark that I swear is "...pussy ain't the same" but is actually published as "for she ain't the same". The line that comes before it is "her mouth was watery and wet." I mean, come on. I hear "pussy" every damn time. Haha.

If anyone gets the time and is feeling generous, could they please do me a very simple favor of listening to that and telling me if I'm crazy?
