This fucking ripped so hard. The HFR looked incredible. Big Jim doesn’t miss. I’ll watch as many of these things he wants to make

If the marines have already found a way to infiltrate the floating islands, what sense does it make to run away? He only had the kids captive because they happened to be there; it easily could have been a different Na'vi patrol. Considering the fact that the military tried to destroy their tree last time, two of the best soldiers leaving is just stranding the rest to die. Sooner or later the military is going to arrest and torture the Na'vi in the forest to find out where Jake is, which is literally what they do to the southern group of sea people when they get the tip about the helicopter.

Why do these movies dislike Michelle Rodriguez so much? She got a pretty ignoble death in the first one, and even though they found ways to bring back multiple characters she was nowhere. Why not make up something to make her a Na'vi. The movie had three screenwriters; someone could have made something up.

Lang says he is the antagonist in all four sequels and would be really disappointing if he was. The best part of the movie is when the military disappears and we watch Jake's family learning to become part of the sea tribe.

Him surviving at the end is easily my main disappointment with this film.

Spider not letting his dad die is a pretty obvious way to keep the same villain, but it also creates some interesting storytelling if handled properly by the writers, too. Especially in a series that focuses on family/found family as a core theme.

Even if he did die there the military could just re-upload him to another body. They could make an army of whales. They could make 1000 of him like Agenr Smith in the Matrix.

What if Lang does pull a Terminator 2 and switches sides?

Wild that 3 will be out in 2024. Instead of like… 2034.

Lang’s survival (and desire to save Spider) was super corny, but they clearly plan for Lang to have his own broader arc within the series. I doubt it’s going to be the most interesting thing in the world because Cameron isn’t exactly known for his storytelling depth, but I had assumed that humans were going to be the antagonists going forward, so the more I think about it, the more having a single main antagonist makes more sense than creating a new villain every movie that starts from the same ignorant human perspective

Cameron fully embraced the fact that he's making theme park movies and does it better than anyone else. I enjoyed this more than any MCU movie or Disney Star Wars (maybe the only exceptions would be Spider-Verse or The Last Jedi but other than that...)

It is funny that he seems to have developed a good portion of the Na'vi language but the characters speak English even when it doesn't make sense because modern audiences won't sit through too many subtitles.

they spoke Na'vi, we heard English, and I am fine with it

yeah Jake Sully says "it eventually began to sound like English" and then it's all in English (with the subtitles fading away which ruled)

    it's smart in my opinion

I was a little thrown off by how often they were saying things like "bro" but it totally makes sense

I assume the deepest it's going to go is Spider joining him or considering joining him at one point, they lingered on his confused face for quite a bit when he was watching Lang watch the clip of "his" "death" and seemed to emphasize Jake/Neytiri being the "murderers"

I think it's funny that Lang's character is actually more 3-dimensional as a cartoon than he was as an actual person

Spider made his decision to not go with Lang. It would be strange to reverse that.

I would like to learn what the Na'vi equivalent for "bro" and "my guy" is

Also interesting how they actually said "skoun" instead of moron even though it was supposed to be translated. Like someone in a dub saying baka

Spider saw just how inhumane they are to the Na’vi, no way is he going to actively participate with him so long as he’s involved with that. He does recognize that Neytiri doesn’t value him, but he obviously has been accepted by the rest of the Sullys. I’m expecting him to, at most, try to be some broader mediator or something.

If anything Quartich will have the more complicated arc. Right now he cares way more about personal revenge than he does about helping the colonial enterprise, he’s having Na’vi experiences, and the only person he cares about is, in spirit, more Na’vi than human. I can see him and Spider abandoning both the humans and the Na’vi and try to venture out on their own

I think it was two things. I'm not going to spoiler tag since it doesn't really seem like we're doing that (I know you did, but so much discussion already out in the open).

    1) he believed Neytiri was going to actually kill him and Quaritch flinched essentially saving his life so he owed saving him.
    2) I don't think he's ever felt he belonged with the Na'vi so even though it's not really his dad, he wants that connection since it's the only connection he's got to humanity and the life he could have had.

I didn't like it in the moment, but it's not horribly unexplainable and hopefully with further movies it'll be expanded on a bit more. I could see Jake founding out and having to hide it from Neytiri, or even go up against her when she wants justice. He seemed to have a soft spot for spider that she didn't.

They established in the beginning that Neytiri always viewed Spider as more of an outsider who didn’t truly belong because he’s human. I assume the other non-Sully Na’vi feel the same. Which obviously makes no sense considering their literal leader is less of a “native” Na’vi than Spider is

So I’m guessing her broader arc will also include some cliche shit about coming to accept Spider
