Making a 3 hour movie saying I'm going to personally murder every whale hunter is also based

The outcast having a fin removed definitely felt like a statement on Chinese shark de-finning practices, too.

I also love that the one whale is an outcast for being a “killer” because he was basically the Che Guevara of whales while the other whales viewed any sort of violence as unjustifiable even if done in self-defense. But then just like the first one, this movie comes to the conclusion that no, the outcast whale is 100% correct and violence is the only way to stop the humans lol

Obviously it’s now an established IP, but just seeing a creative world building that’s unique and original and keeps growing is a large part of the magic of this film. It aspires to make you wonder at the world around them (and consequently, the world around us).

Under the original projections by about $100 million, but still a good opening worldwide nonetheless.

    $135 million domestic opening

I truly don’t know how these numbers are accurately counted & reported by 11 AM Sunday

There’s probably a simple solution, I just don’t know it

  11. The first film’s run was inconceivable - stayed at #1 for numerous weeks. Will be interesting to see if this one has the same legs

Going to come down to this having slim drops in the coming weeks because that is a solid worldwide opening but that domestic opening is barely ahead of Top Gun: Maverick which was far cheaper to make although I have no idea where Cameron pulled his needs to make $2bn to break even remark from given it apparently didn't cost even a quarter of that.

I was only able to snag tix for regular 3D this weekend and not IMAX but will be doing that imminently. You've gotta be smoking cat shit if you think this didn't look absolutely insanely incredible oh my god

    UK estimated opening figures have just dropped and they are definitely less promising, this opened to an estimated $14.2m. For comparison, in brackets second weekend drops;

    Avatar - $13.8m (-30.3%)
    Top Gun: Maverick - $26.6m (-51.6%)
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - $24.4m (-71.4%)
    Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - $14.6m (-49.7%)
    Jurassic World: Dominion - $14.9m (-53.1%)
Minions: The Rise of Gru - $12.6m (-58.8%)
    The Batman - $17.9m (-46.1%)
    Thor: Love and Thunder - $14.8m (-67.4%)

So even though it has opened barely ahead of the first one over here, all is not lost if it holds well but as you can see most big blockbusters have dropped by more than 50% this year.

My guess will be a 20%-30% drop next week. Like I said earlier, the majority of films released around Christmas have smaller drops.

I honestly just want to see 4 so bad, even if it's coming out in 2035 and it's directed by Robert Rodriguez

Gotta see what kinda of story turn Cameron's teasing. I'm hyped as fuck

I really enjoyed this. Visually one of the most stunning movies I’ve ever seen, no question. The plot and characters were significantly improved from the original imo… the family dynamic was really well-done, and the new characters were the best part of the movie. Still some cliched parts, but overall this easily accomplished the most important thing it needed to do for me, which was make me genuinely invested in the world and characters. Can’t wait for Avatar 3.
