Jade City and the sequels are so good.

    Yeah Jade City series rules.

I'm super happy with who I got this year. I already had my book picked out but I think it will be a good fit. I'm at least super curious to know said person's thoughts on it.

I'm not sure how much this information helps since it's secret, but my person should expect their book Wednesday.

    Mine should arrive Wednesday-ish.

I love that we maintain the secrecy of it even though that’s not terribly important to the gift giving haha

I'm not actually home so haven't got them in my hands but thank you to whoever sent The Starless Crown and The Empires Blades - i've always wanted to try Brian Staveley and James Rollins so i'm genuinely excited to start!!

Mine should be on its way and be there by Thursday :)!

Merry Christmas dude! Two books I read this year and loved, so I hope you enjoy them as well!

(they were like £5 each so I didn't feel bad about sending both)

I literally had my own copy of The Emperor's Blades sitting on my shelf since like 2015. Can't believe I took so long to read it haha.

I’ve looked at this book on Audible easily 15-20 times. Excited to check it out!

An absolute favorite of mine that has sent me down a hole of reading all of his other books which has been great. I've said it in this thread before, but he's like the Brandon Sanderson of sci-fi. Incredibly readable and entertaining but endlessly complex. I remember being riveted from the start. And although I've loved all his books I've read from him since, this was the first and the best.

I just recently read the sequel, which was also great. The final book comes out in like January I think.

Also for everyone else, we talkin bout Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which is a book everyone should read as blind as possible, but I haven't seen a summary that spoils it, so an Amazon description or book jacket are fine.

First time I read it, it was like 11pm-3am nonstop couldn’t put it down. When I saw you liked some King, and knowing how much we overlapped, I went a little out of the fantasy genre haha.

Holy shit what a choice, that's an all timer. Also one of my first King reads in like Junior High.

I’m really excited. I’ve read a handful of King and very much enjoy his stuff, so I decided to read through his bibliography in order. (Currently at a speed of one per year, which is not nearly fast enough to even keep pace with him haha.) So this is perfect: something I’m very interested in but wouldn’t have gotten to for a while, but now I have a reason to jump on it! Synopsis sounds super interesting too. Reminds me of 17776 kinda.

    Thanks dude, and merry Christmas!

I see his name quite often, but never know where to start with some of the sci-fi stuff so I'm very excited for this. Sanderson comp is all I need.

This and The Running Man really distill him down to a master for me. Obviously, his huge epics are all-time classics for a reason, but I think he really excels in the smaller works like this that kinda reign him in a bit and force him into concision.

    Same to you!

For a book written in the 80s, it's wildly prescient to our culture today.

Glad it came!! Says it was delayed!
Absolutely love John Gwynne and this series (2 books so far in a trilogy) is the strongest yet. Such a great author that is both authentic and brutal. Hope you enjoy and Merry Christmas!!

Where’s a good place to start with Gwynne??

It depends really. The Faithful and the Fallen is a brilliant twist on coming of age, prophetic stories and his newer series; pictured, is a strong start to another brilliant story. Gwynne is consistent and truly underrated.
You can start with either. I’d say check out the blurbs and decide but both are genuinely great series.

Malice, the first book in the Faithful and the Fallen series. Although I haven't read Shadow of the Gods, so I can't compare.
