You can spec out that exact guitar on Warmoth.com and the body alone (considering it’s mahogany like the neck is) without any hardware is $804 hahaha.

If these become signature models…they’re going to be priiiicey

Man I love this new Fender! Basically his old Gibson but with a Jaguar shape.
I'm nervous how much the retail is gonna be on these. I'd totally snag the white or pink.

Wonder what weird burn patterns and paint spills we'll get to see throughout 2023.

Is this an actual signature guitar with Fender or are these custom shops?

Custom Shops as of right now. But who knows…there could be a new signature in the works. You can also build this exact guitar on Warmoth.com. FYI, he’s using a Seymour Duncan Duncan Custom in these guys. SD’s best pickup!

Did you see Tom’s recreation of that guitar? He recently just auctioned it off after getting all the original stickers reprinted. Turned out great.

It’ll be a bit before retail versions of those guitars come out, but they’re in the plan.

Loving the surf green and the pink. I'm hoping this means Mark and Tom will have matching instruments on stage again.

  13. Worth noting Warmoth upcharges like crazy especially on niche models like this Starcaster

I wish I could find a Tom signature Strat that isn't $1500 or more now :(

I have the all black Squier TD strat. Plays great and the neck is in fantastic shape since it’s been kept up with and maintained. Has 20 years worth of natural body wear/natural relic though. Lmk if you might be interested. I’m planning on selling it soon and not overpricing it.

There’s lots of YouTube videos on how to make a TD strat. I don’t have the skills to make one myself, but I found the parts list, bought a surf green squire, and had my local guitar shop build it for me. I think the total cost was less than $500. I couldn’t be happier with it.

I believe I found everything I needed at Sweetwater except the pick guard. It was on back order but Amazon had them. If anyone is interested in a parts list let me know.

    how does it sound?

    What you’ll need:

Strat/Squire of your choice ( I went with the affinity squire because surf green was an option at $299)
Seymour Duncan SH-8B invader Bridge Humbucker
Fender 11 hole modern style Strat single hum bucker pickguard
    Fender 500k split shaft potentiometer
Fender Telecaster/precision bass knobs - knurled chrome
Mojo tone volume mod for guitars

I think that’s it. It sounds fantastic. I haven’t done any shootouts but I can’t imagine it sounding radically different than an original TD Strat. The key is obviously the humbucker, but more importantly, I believe the tone mod for the treble bleed is required for the authentic sound. My understanding of the treble bleed circuit is that it keeps the treble level consistent at lower volumes. So your quieter, cleaner tones stay bright and crisp. Without it, the treble would decrease as you turned the volume down,

Credit to my guitar shop. As soon as I said TD he knew exactly what to do.

Also, I didn’t mean to spam the thread with nerdy guitar talk, but here we are. Sorry everyone,

  24. thanks for all this info! i think it would be fun to use my credit card and just finally make one of these.

in terms on the pickup, what are your thoughts on the shootout between the Invader bridge pickup vs the Invader neck pickup (in the bridge position)?

    Invader bridge
    Invader neck (in the bridge)

To my ears, the neck pickup in the bridge actually sounds much closer to the Enema sound, or am I crazy?

I remember some controversy about the pickup when I was researching the build. The original supposedly used a neck pickup, but I read accounts of people claiming that it was actually a bridge pickup. Or something like that. I couldn’t find the neck pickup in white at that time, so I went with the bridge. You’re probably right about the neck pickup tone being closer to the sound. The differences seemed minimal to my ears so I went with what I could find. Now you got me wanting to build another one using a neck pickup instead haha.
