I think it's down to Griner's name being in the news waaay more than the Marine, so I guess politically it maybe made more sense to get Griner back instead. Then again, in the background Russia may have been much more reluctant to give up the Marine, so decided Griner wasn't really worth it to keep, if they were able to get Bout back in return

 

I know nothing about the marine and what happened with him. Just seeing people on social media pissed off about it.
