Just rewatched the first one. Insanely good. Best movie of the 2000s no contest

People are asking why this got a China release but what other megabudget Hollywood film are you going to get audiences cheering at corporate-backed US military imperialists getting a much deserved javelining through the proverbial and literal chest

    America can't stop James Cameron

some theorize it stopped being referenced in other widely-seen media (such as the new york times) because it was subversive to the status quo instead of aggressively maintaining it like, you know, marvel movies and most american blockbusters

but who knows. I have a feeling the American audience is going to be much more receptive to the themes and not just wooo pretty 3D this time around. we'll see

Edit: for example, I do not find myself surprised at all to discover that this is a 30-year-old liberal new york times essayist's opinion of avatar:

First reactions out. Pretty positive overall, with many saying the story and characters are improved from the first movie.

It's been really something to see the opinions around Avatar change so dramatically in about a year and a half.
