What's crazy to me is he was INCHES away from one of the most legendary catches in playoff history

 

Seriously... My then-girlfriend-now-wife Was watching the game with me and my fan who are all rabid Sox fans, she comes from a family who never watched sports. She couldn't figure out why we were all freaking out when this happened. I had about had a full on heart attack

 

He was a good middle of the rotation pitcher last year. Once again based off of last year I still think he is good but you're never sure where he'll be at this year at his age.

 

I don't understand the Lackey is bad statement. He's a solid starting pitcher that's good for 2-3 WAR.

 

Yeah. He performance against the Cubs last year in the playoffs showed he still has something. I think him leaving will hurt the cards more than Heyward.

I don't think that's true at all. Heyward is a top 15 player in the league.

 

he gets major points for 13 but mostly i dont like him

 

President Dansby and Vice President Ozzie will bring the rings home to Cobb Co next year

 

It's easier to replace your RF than any quality pitcher in my opinion.

 

@cshadows2887 what are your thoughts on Dombrowski? I'm glad they got rid of Cherington, any success they had while he was there I think was an accident on his part, and had a lot to do with bad decisions for the team.

 

Its obvious they wanted to keep competing while he wanted to focus on rebuilding. It was a big disconnect.

 

I honestly never warmed up to Cherington. He came in with a tough situation, so I withheld judgment for a bit. But he continued to not impress me.

It's too early for me to know how I feel about Dombrowski, tbh.

 

Dombrowski traded Prince Fielder's untradable contract and actually got the Rangers to pay for most of it.

I miss him every day.

Then again we're left with like, three more gargantuan, horrible deals paying Cabrera, Verlander, and Anibal Sanchez into their late 30s/40s, but while that sucks it's kind of the cost of keeping guys like that. Avila seems like Dombrowski-lite so far but it's still early.

 

Tigers will be so meddling for so long. No idea what they'll do since its clear they want to win but the team is so average and they have a completely drained farm system.

They made 2 World Series off those contracts though. Obviously would have been better to win one, but hard to call it a mistake or anything

 

I'm really going to enjoy Yankees games when it works out as Severino, Betances, Miller and Chapman pitching. The rest of the season is a crapshoot lol.

 

in fairness if i were in ilitch's position and 86 years old i probably would want to throw exorbitant sums of cash at players because i'm gonna die anyway and why the hell not

 

I am not a hardcore baseball fan but I love the Cubs. Going to Wrigley two weeks from today, it'll be my 4th time.

 

Oh yeah I don't blame him at all, these have been amazing years as a Tiger fan and Dombrowski was a really great GM, particularly in trades. Still, a World Series win would certainly help me feel better about having those deals on the books for the next 8 years.

 

Jonah is prob my favorite baseball writer out. Can't wait to see how he covers that stacked Toronto team.
