saw that Jake Luhrs’ (August Burns Red) nonprofit organization Heart Support is doing a festival of their own and Dance Gavin Dance is one of the top acts they got for it.

i sent a message that i’m sure they’ll never see about how disappointing that is. but then i looked a little deeper and saw how heavily that org tied itself to Tim Lambesis when he was released and now i’m suddenly not surprised. still disappointed, ABR has always been a favorite band of mine even as a lot of people have fallen off them, but that really dampens my view of them.

Yeah from what I can recall Jake has pretty openly welcomed Tim back to the scene

yeah jake was one of the first people to vouch for tim after his release so booking dgd for their fest isn't at all shocking

not surprised at all that a band who loves jesus welcomed back a guy like tim after he “found god”

How do y’all expect them to continue working if they don’t take every payday they can get? There isn’t exactly a flood of people trying to fund metal festivals and the ones who do definitely aren’t running to book women, so why would you say ppl like Spiritbox just “don’t care” bc they’re on a bill with bands that assault women? Emailing the organization is the right move but critiquing other bands that have zero decision making power is actually worse than doing nothing, because now you’re spreading the blame out to people who have no control over the issue. If they actually took the pay cut, literally no one would even notice their absence, and they might even get blacklisted for speaking out.

I definitely don’t feel any ill will towards bands like spiritbox and others playing this, but I definitely think less of ABR for their association with the likes of DGD/AILD

i mean all i said was it dampens my view of ABR personally. jake in particular.

like i feel like his stance continues to just be “i believe in forgiveness because that’s what god says to do” but forgiveness isn’t theirs to give in this case. they aren’t the ones who were victimized. they have nothing to forgive.

Didn't the lead singer of August Burns Red become a priest for his congregation or something even? So yea, fully embracing the "God forgives all and we need to give forgiveness" is totally on point

That meme with two muscle arms clasped together. The left arm says “Priests” and the right arm says “bros” and their joined hands say “forgiving perpetrators unconditionally.”

Creating an environment where there are no consequences for actions and no reason to be held accountable for said actions is not an environment where people grow, it's an environment where they stagnate and regress, because they have no reason to try to seek redemption or try to learn from their mistakes. If the person still gets everything they ever wanted, then what reason do they have to change?

They don't really want room for people to grow, they want a world where they can feel okay with not giving a shit, and where they can be as terrible as they want and get praised for it. They want a world without repercussion.

And, it's been said in here by other people, but forgiveness is the wrong word to use in this case because the only people that he needs to seek actual forgiveness from are the ones he's done wrong. If they haven't forgiven him, then he's not forgiven. Forgiveness and accountability are not the same thing, and it's annoying that the words get used interchangeably.

  14. Hasn't he done like a bunch of other horrible shit since then? Lol

Yea like, there might be a hint of a resemblance of approaching that conversation of forgiveness and growth with him if he hadn't been actively still doing shit to this day lol

She’s got somewhat of a point with everyone targeting the trans woman but also a good way to not be targeted is to not work with a rapist so…it’s really her own fault

I feel like every time someone releases a new song they did with him they rightfully get called out for working with an abuser. It might die down after a month or so, but everyone who works with him goes through it. Don't like it? Don't work with a rapist.

    Things have changed.

I feel like people said the same stuff to Doja Cat when she first started working with Luke – who's reputation is definitely not a secret at all – so I don't think any of the trans hate stuff is credible at all. Saweetie, Kid Laroi, Nicki Minaj ... they can all get fucked.

Really? Because I was gonna say the doja cat stuff blew over rather quickly when she pulled the “I signed the contract before I knew about it” card and her last album got really good reviews despite everyone knowing Dr Luke worked on it under his new pen name or whatever. Same for Nicki, I frankly see more people peeved by Kim Petras anytime it comes up than anyone. But, I don’t think there’s any real excuse, and I think it’s valid if in her eyes she feels more slighted for it than others because she’s trans because that’s kind of how it usually tends to go. Given that she thinks she’s done nothing wrong, however, makes it a moot point because the criticism is deserved. That’s all I really meant.

I think a big part of it was is that every single Kim Petras song is a Dr Luke song. EVERY song she ever made, until the Sam Smith song, was a Dr Luke song. I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, but it's understandable that people would be more annoyed that someone has an exclusive partnership with him for every single song, versus working with him on a track or two.

Kim also said she had a good relationship with Luke and implied Kesha was lying whereas most people maintain plausible denial

Doja and Latto are also at a different level of success
