  1. Ugh I've been putting that one off even though I desperately want to get to The Viewing

I know they're unrelated but I feel like I gotta watch in order lol

To get into the "Christmas" spirit, I checked out Silent Night, Deadly Night and the original Black Christmas for the first time. I enjoyed both quite a bit but my wife was judging me hard for both of those lol

I also checked out Terrifier 2 and while it was quite graphic, it was so over the top that it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

  3. It's almost time to rewatch Silent night, Deadly Night. And Krampus.

Are any of the Krampus sequels worth watching?

Also, Better Watch Out was really good if anyone hasn't seen it.

The Viewing was uhhhh something! I haven't seen any Panos before, that was certainly a way to start

The Murmuring is very nice halfway in. glad this seems to be ending well after Witch House had me tempted to throw my laptop out the window

Witch House was definitely at the bottom for me. Loved The Viewing and The Murmuring was a nice capper - definitely a quiet, slow burn but good performances and pretty emotional.

Has anyone in here seen Bones and All? I keep reading more and more great things.

Seeing Krampus this week at the cheap theater.

Yeah, it was good. A weird art-house style drama-horror.

    Still need to watch Krampus.

  9. Lol, none of them are official (all knock-offs) so I couldn't tell ya. Michael Dougherty's Krampus is great, though. Very weird and fun and Gremlins-esque.

fuck it - gonna go ahead and rank Cabinet because that was one hell of a quality rollercoaster. mild spoilers at best but fair warning:

    - The Autopsy. best of the show by far and some of the best horror of the year straight up. absolutely mesmerising performances from the three leads and fantastic direction by a very interesting newer name. people who don't have time for the full season at the very least gotta see this imo

    - The Murmuring. I was slightly hesitant of this one because I find The Babadook bizarrely overrated but this is very understated, quite heartfelt but still scary as hell. reminded me a lot of Mike Flanagan which is an instant win in my books. another set of terrific lead performances too - I didn't know Andrew Lincoln was like, this good lol

    - Pickman's Model. I'm kinda iffy on the ethics of doing a straight Lovecraft adaptation these days, I think at the very least something should be said in Del Toro' intro. that aside this was pretty strong. Ben Barnes was excellent, the ending slaps, and boy Crispin Glover's accent has to be heard to be believed lol. soundtrack really stands out here too, very tense and unsettling work

    - Lot 36. very straightforward episode but still a riot, although the climax leaves a bit to be desired after the slow build. Tim Blake Nelson rules always

    - The Viewing. still kinda chewing on this but I'm kind of feeling like it was an incredibly soundtracked, very nicely directed nothingburger. the dialogue was.. not the best and the reveal a bit of a letdown after the looong walk to get there. Eric Andre was truly excellent though, as the only character with any real interiority

    - The Outside. I feel like there's a world where this works perfectly and I adore it, but in our reality it feels like a hot mess. great work from Miccuci but everyone else feels woefully miscast and the tone shifts are baffling, parts of this could be on an out there SNL skit and that's not a compliment lmao

    - Graveyard Rats. just very forgettable to me and easily the most predictable story in this bunch. a decent gross out but that's about it

    - Dreams in the Witch House. good lord what a pile of shit lmao. I've always liked Rupert Grint and he was honestly trying his best but this thing is an absolute disaster. the witch looks like a bottom tier Doctor Who villain and every time the talking rat man showed up I legitimately had to get up and pace around for a minute to calm myself. some all time terrible line deliveries too, but I'm not sure if it's on the part of the actors at all. true 0/10 stuff here, only watch ironically

Agreed on mostly all points and my ranking is very similar to yours. I'm just a goner for Cosmatos and I loved every second of The Viewing haha. Highly recommend Mandy if this is where you landed on it

  13. Two episodes into Wednesday, Jenna Ortega is great in it, but the show itself isn't great--so far. Still entertaining, though, at least.

Also two episodes in, the plot and deeper themes are pulling me in, more of a mystery than I expected. The Wednesday character is over the top but Jenna Ortega’s performance is so good I barely notice. Some really funny lines and a lot of cringe ones too, definitely excited to watch more tho.

For me, I found something to enjoy in all the episodes (even Dreams in the Witch House tbh), so it was much more of a which i liked more/less for my list.

  24. Third episode down, I like the magical universe murder mystery that Wednesday Addams happens to find herself at the center of, but the show doesn't feel like Addams Family. Kind of like how Netflix's Resident Evil was an interesting half-YA half-zombie apocalypse story but it didn't feel like Resident Evil. It's cool to put a new spin on an established IP, but with Netflix sometimes the spirit of it is lost along the way

I'm not really liking the Tim Burton-ness of it all, either. A lot of it feels quirky for the sake of being quirky. Also, did he really think casting one token black character would make us forget about his comments about his "aesthetic?" The themes lean into the outcasts vs. normies but where are all the queer and poc students?

All that said, Jenna Ortega is way too good in this for me to stop watching it. I'm entirely captivated by her performance.
