I just love Stadium Arcadium so much bc it feels sooo John throughout. Like, they really let him cut loose on a lot of tracks. That and By The Way are the two most John albums, in my opinion. The two last albums have felt like John and Flea jam sessions refined into 4 minute songs or whatever. And I love that.

"if," "hey," and "death of a martian" are like three of the best songs on that record lmao

"make you feel better" -> "animal bar" is probably my favorite part of either disc tho

John goes HAM on Wet Sand & Turn it Again

  11. Wet Sand’s the best, but was also always a fan of Especially In Michigan

Yeah, I think Blood Sugar is definitely the second weakest John album (it's better than Mother's Milk). I actually don't even think Californication is consistent all the way through, I would cut a few songs from the second half probably. Like I said above, I think By the Way is far and away their best album all the way through

I still need to get around to the brand new one though, I'm hearing it's better than Unlimited Love (which I enjoyed a lot but also should have been shorter)

Yep! The two best songs on the album.

Listened to the Mars disc again yesterday because it's been probably almost ten years since I listened to it in full, and man, this album is packed with the feeling of summer '06. It was the only new album I had with me to our summer cottage. Me and my brother stayed up until 3 every night taking turns playing San Andreas and listening to this album over and over again.

The brand new one basically feels like Unlimited Love part 2. There’s maybe two or three clunkers, but nothing unlistenable. I really think these two latest albums are some of the best in their entire catalog. Band is aging like fine wine in the studio, I think.

I agree with you about Californication. I don’t love it as much as the critics do. I think maybe bc it got soooo much radio play, I got sick of it. I’m not sure. But By The Way blows it out of the water.

For some reason, I can mess with One Hot Minute any day of the week but the rest of their catalogue, before and after, is not my thing at all. Objectively, I know OHM is a forgotten piece of their discography but, to my ears, it’s A grade 90s rock.

I finally got around to Dream Canteen and actually think it's noticeably better than UL, and I really liked that album too. Definitely justified it being two separate albums

Both albums are good. Easily their best work in 16 years, although The Getaway is sneaky underrated.
