given how badly society fucked up re: the dangers of smoking, I think I can understand people wanting to be overly cautious this time around

  4. well, yeah. but there's no reason to fear monger. it's a tool to quit smoking, and it works. most doctors and studies, from what i know, say its better than smoking. could that be wrong? sure. i guess its a question of how likely it is to be worse than smoking in the end. would you rather have more people smoking and less quitting with that tool? you could legitimately say either way i suppose but id lean toward getting people off cigarettes

As a smoker of 10 years, the social implications (regardless of the inference that it's definitely better for you) make keeping vaping legal the right move. The vaping market is, compared to tobacco, easier to enter into (for already-big corporations) and less prone to monopoly and resource and labor exploitation because of its artificiality and the methods of production. Downside? You tank one of the last remaining profitable resources in the central southeast US.

With that said, vaping makes you look like a damn boob. So I'll keep smoking my Marlboro Reds, and I'll quit eventually.

As a fellow vaper I have to agree. No one is arguing that vaping is "healthy" but it is certainly better than smoking cigarettes, that much is true.

Plus, the whole facade of "protecting the public through regulations" is just a mechanism to protect the tobacco industry from a competitive market who likely will be choked out due to the cost of regulatory compliance.

Here, I think I can help.

It's hard to be surprised by the rise of populism when our media and government are in bed together with what stories are reported and how they are reported on. It's hard to be shocked as to why a large segment of the population has completely lost faith, and trust, in the government and media and have chosen to ignore them.

But I guess as long as everyone distracted, fighting over whether or not "their team" did better in a presidential debate like it was a college basketball game then I guess they can do whatever they want.
